I have been a New York Jets fan my entire life and my first words may have been "Joe Namath," for all I know. That's how far back I go with this team. I have stuck with them through thick and thin - mostly thin - and always rooted loud and proud.

Through the difficult days of the early 1970s, the Walt Michaels (Sack Exchange) era that made me proud to wear the Kelly green and white, the atrocious move to New Jersey and having to play second banana at Giants Stadium, "Joe Must Go," Blair Thomas, Browning Nagle, Brett Favre & Wrecks Ryan - I stayed the course. But two things in recent days have pushed me over the edge:

1 - The Drafting of Geno Smith - I agree that the Jets' QB situation is a mess, but this was the year to stay away from drafting your QB of the present and/or future. Smith - who has had questions about his intensity and ability or willingness to play in cold weather - fell down the charts for a reason. If he was that good, someone would have taken a shot at him in the high 20s or 30s in Round 1. The Jets owe mark Sanchez $8.5 million if he is cut or not ($12 million against the cap, too), so why not let him start and hope that he has a rebound season? If not, then he and the fat big mouth head coach that brought him here are both shown the door at the end of this sure-to-be losing season, anyway.

In 2014 (a year that the Jets will surely have a top two or three pick because they are going to suck donkey dick this coming season), both Johnny Manziel and Teddy Bridgewater are expected to enter the draft. Those are franchise QB's, not Geno.

2 - The Misuse and Release of Tim Tebow - Yes, I WAS a Jets fan, but I have always loved Tebow since he became a sensation at Florida. I am the last guy to start quoting the bible, but thought that he was genuine in doing it (unlike Ray Lewis) and respected him for his fiery disposition and willingness to do whatever it took to excel on the field. The guy has won everything since HS and in his only legit shot in the NFL, willed a very mediocre Broncos team that was left for dead when he took over to the division title and a playoff win versus a two-time Super Bowl winning QB in Big Ben.

No problem with Tebow being discarded for Peyton Manning and just about every other QB (with the exception of a handful) in the league would have met the same fate.

But the Jets - who love a good dog-and-pony show to masque their inadequacies - bring him in amongst a lot of fanfare and make the kid bulk up. Then they leave him on the sideline, even when their season was mathematically over regarding the playoffs. Misuse, straight out lying and what amounted to reputation destruction all followed, as the Jets and their bunch of clueless employees scrambled to defend themselves in this botched trade. A fourth rounder and $4 million later, they cut the kid after all of the undrafted free agents - including QBs, mind you - are signed league-wide.

The Jets may use the excuse that they wanted to release the young man face-to-face and players reported this morning to their NJ complex, but they could have called him in a day earlier knowing the timing.

SO I will now just be a fan of the NFL and not one specific team. I will, however, root for any club that signs Tebow - even if it's the hated Patriots, who I feel will eventually become Tebow's next home. Why? Belechick is pals with Urban Meyer, Tebow's college coach. And New England's offensive coordinator is none other than Josh MacDaniel, who traded up to select Tebow while the head coach in Denver.

Plus, the Pats love to shove it up the Jets asses and did so with Danny Woodhead. I couldn't be any happier if they do it again with TT. I can see it now - Week 2, Thursday Night Football, first and goal from the Jets 3-yard line & Tebow lines up behind center. Takes the pistol formation snap and runs right into the corner of the end zone, celebrating the way he can only do.

Good riddance, NY Jets.
