I think the main problem is that they are getting rid of a lot of the well-known shows and then replacing them with new ones. Saying that we have shows with only 4-5 competitors is an exaggeration (I don't recall any shows that small, at least in the open division) but it seems like the shows with smaller and weaker lineups are the newer ones. They get rid of the Ferrigno Legacy, switch the Arnold Europe over to Santonja, etc. and then they get replaced by other shows that nobody knows about and nobody shows up for. Any contest is likely to take a few years before it becomes established and starts attracting stronger lineups.

Also, looking back at Olympia lineups in previous decades it doesn't seem like we have more competitors now. If anything, the number of competitors has been similar or lower over the past few years than it was in the 80's, 90's and 2000's where some years had well over 20 in Men's Bodybuilding. It was only the mid-70's and earlier where they had only a few competitors, and I wouldn't like to go back to that.

agree with Shawn.. guys like Lukas,Oliva,Jr,Charles Griffin,Wade nobody gives a shit about at the Olympia since they won't even be top 10 but the IFBB still wants these guys to believe they are part of something special just being at the Mr Olympia and other industry insiders keep saying 'oh it is great just to be there'.. no its not since nobody will fucking remember you since your posing routine wont even be in the top 10.. you might aswell save your money for next years prep and do the Arnold's...
like Nathan DeAsha said at the epic press conference to Oliva Jr, "your talking more then you will be on stage"

also Shawn, the Raiders and Cowboys both suck this year so we have nothing to do on Sundays but jerk off to tranny porn..
and i'm glad you will be part of team Edwards during the race wars

Shawn, the problem is there is not enough elite open bodybuilders anymore to compete at these shows...either from health problems, money problems, genetic problems..
its all trending to my Classic division taking over sooner than later

It does seem to have gone crazy but I think there is a way to stop inferior level pros reaching the Olympia cluttering up the stage.

Place a clause/condition that any pro shows with 5 or less competitors in that class should have to win with a clear score of firsts to qualify.

Seen too many sneak through to Vegas when they won their pro qualifier with only three or four in it.

I been saying it a while now. The Olympia should be limited to 10 in each division. Every competitor in every division will get paid. The qualifications can be done similar to the bikini & men’s physique, by a points system.

agree, and who should be auto qualified the top 3 in each division instead of top 5 from the previous Olympia?..
some people argue only the number 1 should auto qualify
