Supplementation question

  • Supplementation question

    So I have been reading up on supplements and went and bought some, trying to stay on the cheaper end while still buying quality products.

    What I got is:
    - Optimized Nutrition Instantized BCAA 5000 powder (1 serving has 2.5g L-Leucine and 1.25g ea. of L-Isoleucine and L-Valine)

    - Creatine Monohydrate (5g per teaspoon)

    - Whey Isolate (1g Fat, 4g Carbs, and 28g Protein per scoop)

    - Blended PM Protein (60:40 Whey:Casein; 2g Fat, 2g Carbs, and 40g Protein per two scoops, )

    This seemed like the most important supplements and the ones I would get the most bang for my buck.

    1. Am I missing anything? Or could I have make better choices the next time?

    2. Both protein supplements also contain the BCAAs (3.5g of Leucine, 2g Isoleucine and Valine, as well as 5g Glutamine in the Whey and 10g Glutamine in the Blended Protein). How much and when should I use the BCAAs?

    I also purchased some Lean Body RTD shakes to use for between meal nutrition.

        thats all i take but use cottage cheese or meat for a pm protein
        i also use fish oil and mulit vit/min

        the bcaa's i take 2 teaspoons during my workout with one 1/2 teaspoon creatine mono then post workout i add the other 1/2 teaspoon with the meal i have

        and it works great for me

            I trained for 6 months until I incurred a back injury. Been off for 4 months and just starting to come back.

            I take a multi-v year round and use tuna as one of my main whole food protein sources, so I should be pretty good for the Omega 3's.

              Until you get in about a years worth of serious training the only supps you need are protein, multiv that you take and I suggest getting an Omega 3-6-9 so that your getting everything outside the realm of tuna. Everything else can wait. Spend your hard earned money on more food, youll see great results before adding in any other supps!

                Good stuff. Got the basics. Get a good multi. I seriously have 2 multi's I really like:

                1) Beverly Ultra 4 Multi Vitamin (you take 2 tabs 2 times per day or 1 tab 4 ttimes per day)

                2) Vitamin Shoppe 3 Daily

                I also like to supplement with a multi mineral. My favorite is VPX CMZ. It is a chelated mineral complex that should be taken on an empty stomach before bed. It def helps aid in a deep sleep. Recommended dose is 6 caps. I usually go with 3-4 however as I think that is enough, plus going higher makes me a little lethargic when I rise the next day. My 2nd fav mineral complex is Vitamin Shoppes complete Mineral complex. It's a 3 a day as well so it works well with the multi vitamin (Taken Meals 1, 4, & 7)

                  Will protein supplements help you replace fat with muscle if you are doing a normal cardio and lifting 3-4 times a week? Or am I just going to gain weight by taking Whey Protein as directed?

                    Thi is a common misconception. You don't actually replace fat with muscle - the two are separate and one can never become the other.

                    Protein helps grow muscle, which in turn increases your metabolism and helps you burn more fat for energy, even while resting.

                      I use GNC MegaMan MV.

                      I seem to remember something from HS biology class that minerals are needed also to aid in the digestion of the vitamins or certain ones at least.

                        well in my opinion, when it comes to supplements i always keep it simple and stick to the basics first and foremost. whey protein, bcaa's, creatine, multi, and glutamine. to me that should always be the base of your supplement arsenal, everything else is just a plus. i've never done casein protein, i just use whey. AAEFX's has all of these great products in many great flavors man. i've been using their products for months now and i love every single one of them. look up their products and see what you think man, their pre-workout product KOTIC is in my opinion the best one i've used thus far. one scoop is more than enough to get you through an entire workout and give you plenty of energy, focus and a great pump.

                          Get the food you eat in order first. It never makes sense to me that people take a protein supplement when their quality of food intake is sub par to begin with.

                              To stay ripped all year round while still putting on muscle, I usually keep protein to carbs at a ratio of 4:1. Stay away from sugars except maybe a pinch here and there. My favorite aminos are HEALTHY FIT 10,000 AMINOS. The best out there. Have to crack the pills first so they break down quicker. The best protein is real protein (MEAT, FISH, EGGS,).
