I personally do a range of 8-12 with my HIT routine. When I am able to exceed 12 reps in a set, on the next workout, I increase the weight a little.

10 reps. up weight...6-8 reps up weight.. 3-4 reps when i can do more then 4 reps on a heavy set its time to jack the weight up again on that set

            4-6 one week
            8-12 for 2 weeks
10+ for 1 week and then repeat

A variety of rep range is best.

veriety like FD/FS is great although as an ectomorph I try to focus on lower rep ranges.

Legs hell most of development came from guess what jump squats I also have a training philosphy on squats it goes like this:

                1 warm up stretch
2 3 sets of jump squats
3 2 sets of front squats really low legs close reps 4-6
4 3 sets regular squats not too deep heavy weight reps 3-6
                5 sumo squats reps 6-8
2 other excercises in rep ranges 8-20
                quads are done

For me, it is very subjective to the exercise I am performing. You'll never see me do high reps on some exercises whilst you will also never see me doing low reps on other exercises. Furthermore it's also very dependent on where in the workout the exercise sits. More at the beginning and I focus on lower reps, towards the end I focus a lot more on higher reps and time under tension principle.

As PanterA said i prefer variety of rep range but in the range of 6-12. I used to do less than 6 with heavier weights but not any more.

Everything. I change it up from 3-6 reps, 8-10 reps, 12-15 reps to always keep my muscles confused. I rarely go above 15 reps though
