  • AAS: Things to consider before starting a first cycle

Discipline and dedication are principles that you are going to have to master if you are serious about bodybuilding, being consistent with your diet and training will help you succeed in achieving your goals. Don't have tunnel vision in thinking you will only build muscle if your taking AAS, below are some of the main principles you need to consider before taking any AAS

In humans your Endocrine system is not fully functional until an average age of 25yrs, although the main development is up to around 21yrs it still fluctuates a little bit up to its fully functional age. There is a risk of permanently damaging your HPTA if you take AAS to young and you could end up with symptoms of andropause and HRT for life. Symptoms could be Limp dick, low libido, depression, low energy, low endurance, erection problems and many more but.......are these the types of symptoms you want to have in your 20's?. Believe me its hard to cope with these in your 40's yet alone in your prime of your life.

Around this age your Testosterone levels are the highest they going to be in your life naturally, so use what you have and don't take the risk of damage, I am passionate about this because ive seen it many times with young kids wanting to looking like their heroes and they think the answer is in an injection/tablet.

Taking AAS to young can also cause problems with development, one other main problem is premature sealing of your epiphyeal bone and the consequences mean that you wont grow as big as your genetics could allow you to, there is a test which can be done to see if your growth plates have sealed yet but the average age is around 21yrs old.

You need a few years of hard training under your belt before even considering taking any kind of anabolic support, people who jump on a cycle to soon without having some quality years under their belt usually results in injuries, it takes time to develop your connective tissue, tendons and nervous system to heavy overload training. Slowly getting your own system use to these kinds of extreme's will only help in muscle growth later on when you do decide to start taking AAS.

Build a solid foundation for muscle tissue to grow and maintaining and development will be far greater than without it. Many younger guys will start cycling before they have reached their genetic potential which is crazy when a good solid diet and training program will be far beneficial and productive to muscle building.

Workouts should be mainly focused on basic movements with a priority of over loading the muscle each and ever time you train, increasing your strength and ability to lift in proper form will help with building the foundation for future development

A lot of younger bodybuilders don't know how to eat. Researching and understanding how your own body responds will help you get to your natural limit, the right food at the right time and a full understanding of proteins, carbs, and fats will only help you succeed in achieving your natural goals. Keeping a diet diary will also help you understand the importance of macro, nutrients, calories and should help you see in which areas you could be going wrong in adding lean muscle tissue.

No matter how much anabolic support you have it will be worthless without proper nutrition, food will help build and maintain your valued muscle weather its natural, cycling or in PCT. Adjusting your food intake and consuming muscle building foods coupled with a solid training program will help you achieve your natural limit and foundation before you start AAS use.

This area is a huge problem with the younger guys and I can't express enough how important diet/food is when first starting out, post and pre training nutrition are very important and understanding how to load and feed the body will help push growth and create a very natural anabolic environment.

This is great advice and has been needed for sometime now. I really think new guys must get their training, nutrition and recovery dialed in first before even considering aas. Drugs are a final element once all other elements are firmly in place.
All posts are for entertainment and may contain fiction. Consult a doctor before using any medication.

Good post Marcus! I had something similar to add... for teens and adults...

Adolescents - Trying to make the Cut by Uneducated, Impulsive Choices

“I must be accepted - I must be the best.”

A major problem exists amongst adolescents, especially those partaking in competitive sports: parental and peer pressure to be the best. They strive to exceed everyone else and possibly grab a scholarship to a credible University. Teenagers that do not have access to good coaches and nutritionist will see the marketing hypes in favorite magazines and absorb the ridiculous claims as a way to get ahead. These marketing campaigns often use sports’ idols to lure them into buzzwords and empty promises. Then, when the uneducated trainee finds the magic pills are not working like they did for their favorite athletic icon, they may look to jump into a more powerful, yet impulsive choice: anabolic-androgenic steroids. This choice is usually outside any medical supervision or even parental notification.

If a person isn't post-puberty, the drawbacks can be disastrous. A child during puberty experiences natural changes in androgen levels to lead them into maturing as a properly virilized adult. This leads a deepened voice, increased body and pubic hair, as well as increased musculature - a naturally occurring process that unfolds without self-administrating anabolic drugs. Administering exogenous androgens during puberty can put a teen into a very unnatural environment since the body no longer has control - since endogenous androgens will be terminated by an abundance of exogenous supra physiological doses. Steroid cycles for increasing musculature usually last eight to 12 weeks and often increase blood androgen levels three to 10 times normal levels. AAS-induced premature closure of growth plates will keep a teen from obtaining their maximum height. Less tangible side effects can result in long-lasting neurological effects from the complicated puberty. No well-educated athlete would ever consider anabolic steroids prior to 21 years of age. Many endocrinologist suggest full maturation is reached by 25 years.

The other problem exists in an athlete’s training experience. A trainee using a performance enhancing drugs needs to know more than simple athletic fundamentals. Advanced diet and training strategies are needed to maintain the additional development resulting from anabolic steroid cycles. Years of training will help an athlete better prepare connective tissue and expose known injury risks prior to periods of increased growth. All are fundamental to safe use and long-term results.

Adults - Searching for the Secret Training Variable for Quick Results

“I’m not getting any younger - I need something quick!”

In a culture of quick fixes and fast foods we can lose sight on what’s reasonable. Sure, microwaving dinner for a quick meal on the run saves time. But is it reasonable to expect human beings to make instant changes in body composition? The human body is a complex integration of numerous processes. Expecting to simply make a change to the endocrine system in favor of a more anabolic environment without proper research is what leads to destructive use. They are most effectively used as a respected supplement for a well-rounded athlete - not as a crutch to be used in irrational amounts by a previously inactive person. Otherwise, internal injuries are sure to follow and muscular gains are quick to lose. Hormones are very powerful messengers and should be treated as such. Schedule medical check-ups and use reasonable doses. Sometimes the risk-to-benefit ratio can rest on a real fine line. Get a bill of good health before you begin.

Impulsive use by adults and adolescents is - unfortunately - what gets recognized by mainstream media, medical professionals and governing authorities.

It comes down to diet and training. Even if you were a teen and took AAS, if you dont have the first two things down, you might gain size for 2 months, but it will not be quality and I would bet anything that you will lose it and be back to square one. Im not saying that the magic number is 25 yrs old, but its definitely not in your teen years.

Q1- Are oral cycles only worth the liver damage you'll do or should a prohormone cycle better?
Q2-Is the chances of gyno really increased if you use oral dianabol over any other oral?
Q3- If an all oral cycle is used, would you need to use more liver care products than you would on a PH cycle?
Q4- last one for now is just a bout joint health. Would cissus be an effective alternative to glucosamine and msm?
