Marie Samperio is soon to hit the Arnold Amateur stage as a heavyweight.

She takes her bodybuilding seriously!

When I asked her to tell me a little about herself, she came back with, “I am single, but totally married to my sport."

She has a chocolate Labrador Retriever named Choco and considers herself to be a shopaholic!

By day, she is a therapist who works with kids; she also does a little personal training on the side.

AZ: You’re coming in from Texas. I know that in my area of Texas, there are not a lot of bodybuilders. What is bodybuilding like in your area?

MS: There really aren’t a lot of serious, competitive bodybuilders in my area, and much less for women bodybuilders.

I try to bounce around to different gyms during preparation and the gym members seem to be nice to me. They’re supportive.

AZ: How long have you been bodybuilding?

MS: For about 5 years.

AZ: You won your class at the Jr. USA’s in 2010. Will we see you go for a pro card in 2011?

MS: Definitely!!!

AZ: What do you think about the new WPD? Being as you’re a middleweight, you would have to scale down to give it a try. Is this something you’re even interested in?

MS: I think it’s a great opportunity for competitors that are just starting, but don’t want to go to the much more intense level, such as light to heavy weight divisions.

At the moment, I am not a heavyweight competitor, but I hope I can get there.

I’m not one to let a great opportunity pass me by, so we’ll see what happens later.

AZ: How excited are you to be competing in this show? What does it mean to you?

MS: I am very excited and honored to be part of this wonderful event.

It means a lot to me because I see it as a challenge.

I am not one to shy away from a challenge; this event shows that my hard work is paying off.
