There's a lot of misconceptions with it IMO. I've only ever lifted raw so far (although I do own a squat suit), I respect both types of lifter. Same as those that dismiss people that DL sumo rather than conventional on the basis that they think it's easier; well yes, technically the bar does have a little less distance to travel when you lift sumo, but the weight that's on the bar is no different. Also, biomechanically one lift often tends to suit a lifter better than the other one. I would probably lift sumo style if I could, but I'm just not set up to lift like that ~ sometimes you get no say in the matter.
Monolifts are just as bad if not worse. For a squat to count I think the lifter should have to walk it, squat and then walk it back and rack the bar. To me the walk outs are part of what a squat is.
