Unfortunately were past the point of no return....
I don't want to sound like a broken record or start another Howard thread but I would especially like to hear Peter Mcgough"s opinion on this subject?
I watched the evolution of bodybuilding recently and Peter talked about how popular Frank Zane was back when he was winning the Olympia. He sold more magazine covers than Arnold!
I am not saying all competitors should compete at 170lbs but the sport was so much more popular back then because the general public could aspire to those physiques! The freaks of today just don't appeal to the majority of people.
Go on YouTube and read the comments regarding any ifbb pro video - the comments are all about steroids! This is the first thing a person who knows nothing about bodybuilding will think of when it comes to bodybuilding.
We all know the ifbb dose not drug test and all the pros are juiced to the gills and using all sorts of drugs to achieve the freaky physiques of today so what sort of reputation dose this give our sport??
Look at all the Olympic sports - they are all drug tested! Pro bodybuilding is the only Professional sport where the athletes are not tested!
Lets bring this sport out of the dark ages and back into a golden era and start testing all athletes.

Ultimately I think it comes down to what the judges "reward" or lack of. But I mean this bodybuilding at some point were going to come to this.

Wow, look man I know your natural and all that good stuff, but the ifbb will never be without drugs even if they drug tested. So what's the point? The NBA,NFL,MLB all drug test and you think they are all clean or even the majority...... NO. There is Natural bodybuilding and then there is the ifbb. Get over it. You can Ethier be a freak.....or not. I would say the majortity of pros don't give two shits if they APPEAL to the public they just like being big and lifting heavy shit..... To put it bluntly.
Didn't they try this once and everyone looked horrible?
I could be wrong.
I mean... it wouldn't be the first time.
I honestly think the guys that are at the top now would still be at the top if they started testing as genetics and hard training/good nutrition are big factors. It would take a while for most of them to adjust and learn to peak without drugs/diuretics etc but I still think we would see great bodybuilders of today - just not freaks.
The sport would be more like 70-80tys era - they called it the "golden era" for a reason. People actually liked the look of bodybuilders from that era!
If the top guys were subject to IOC standard testing I am sure the sports reputation would improve..

What do you expect when Branch Warren gets second place at the Olympia. I think it makes it clear who the judges are favoring.
yes other sports test yes the pros in those sports still use drugs....testing in bodybuilding would be terrible....I would stop following bodybuilding because the freak factor would be gone....who cares what the general public thinks...one reason i started bodybuilding was to be difderent and stand out from the general public
Testing is a silly thought. End of thread.
bodybuilding is bigger then its ever been its more popular then ever so stop saying bodybuilding was more popular in the 70's or 80's. just look at how many competitors and fans are local shows and national level shows. tons of guys make a living being a pro bodybuilder and there is plenty of money to be made. after seeing the monsters of today physiques of the 70's or 80's would not impress me onstage. there are alot of awesome physiques out there not sure why people keep bitching about how guys have lost all shape and aesthetics
why does everybody want bodybuilding to be mainstream? it you want mainstream, go get some zumba or something and leave bodybuilding alone. I'm happy with it being a lil niche sport.
its always natty's that whine about this. If you don't like it, go grow your natty organization into something
No, I don't think it's time for them to worry about drug testing the "athletes." It's time for the IFBB to stop rewarding Branch Warren and Kevin English.
I feel as though this is not a serious thread?
