    Default Powerlifting and Cardio

    What kind of cardio do you guys do that doesn't interfere with your training?

    I want to do cardio not for fat loss, but the sole purpose of longevity and a healthy cardiovascular system.

    I was running quite a bit but stopped due to an ankle injury. I want to get back into cardio and was looking for ideas on what to do.

    I squat and deadlift 2-3 times a week each so I want to do something that will allow me to hit those hard.

    Im almost thinking about doing cardio on my training days after workouts, like a double session just to have full days off in between workouts.

    i been toying around with cardio lately. basically i do some kind of circuit HIIT type of thing.

    on deadlift/squat days, post-workout i do:
    tire flips (tire is maybe 300 lbs im not sure), walking light-weighted lunges, farmers walk, and some kind of ab work.

    i just go the length of the gym, which cant be too much more than 50 feet. i repeat each cycle as many times as i can within 15-20 mins and take breaks when needed. usually take about a 1 min break between cycles.

    on bench days i do:
    sledgehammer work, push a kickboxing dummy the length of gym (since i dont have a prowler or sled), jog/sprint back, and medicine ball throws

    Wamup and cool down on a piece of cardio eqipment (bike/treadmill/stepper etc etc) for 10mins each side of the weights session. That's 20mins cardio each training session that shouldn't interfere with your muscle and/or strength gains.

    Lately I've been doing sets of 80m Farmers Walks with the dumbbells, I'd count that in as cardio as well.

    I do no cardio at the moment.
    John Kiefer is AGAINST cardio period. Google him.
    I would say if anything just do some sled work after training.

    I'd say do sled work on your off days and not on your training days. Sled work won't make you sore and it'll help improve your cardio output so you can push the pace in the gym when your lifting.

    ^If your gym has a prowler then that is a great conditioning tool.

    If you're at a commercial gym, I'd say hop on their step mill (NOT stairmaster). Stepmills simulate walking stadiums steps.

    Usually I walk for one hour...2-3 times a week.
