While part it it is but the volume of food you have to eat to maintain that size is definently part of it as well

Gotta give MD and Peter McGough credit. At least attention is being brought to this issue and not just being swept under the rug like before.

I think it was already understood that the whole gut thing with hgh and insulin was a myth.

Leave it to me to be naive (sp) but I always thought it was where the bodybuilders built thier muscles so big in the waist.I saw Mike Mentzer guest pose one time and he had a big belly and that was in 1980.

I think a lot of the problem is that guys aren't practicing keeping their stomachs under control too. In earlier decades I think the pros spent a lot more time working on their presentation, so even if they had some distention they were able to keep their midsections looking tight.

Extreme carb loading...not keeping the stomach tight and under control. over eating during the off season to gain mass and be competitive.

It isnt food. Guys like Reg Park, Ken Waller and Danny Padilla could pound the food. None of them ever showed a huge gut onstage. Combine insulin, gh and lots of food-highly anabolic-all over. Even in the gut.

Majority of it is food intake..... I'll say about 75% hell maybe more. It was explained to me like this..... if your only going to diet 12-14 and try to bring down a gut your carried about for 8.5 months out of the year its not going to just magaically get flat. Then along with the overeating and massive slin use you get the viseral fat. Thats when it gets really ugly!
