Hello guys, Luke Wood here. Im sorry its taken me so long to get here, but better late than never!!! just been browsing over the forum and its AWSOME!
Since my poor showing ealier this year i have been giving my body a much needed rest!!! I competed 8 times in 2 years and never really hit the condition i was in back in the New York Pro show in 2005!! That was mmy best all round condtion and showing and mainly due to have rested in 2004 prior to that show! Since than i really wanted to get my name out, so i competed alot!!! Im very happy with the exposure i did get, doing shoots with Flex mag, Iron man, Muscle mag etc and i will PROMISE to live up to my word of shooting with Pearl and MD!!! I also guest posed 6 times all in different countries and never got above 6% BF in 2 years. At the end of 2006 i was feeling run down and tired and i knew my body wanted rest! But to my surprise and absolute honour i got an invite to the Arnold Classic which was just a dream come true!! I signed a contract with 6 Star Muscle Fuel (Muscletech) and life was great in that department, but i knew my body was trying to tell me different. I started my 2007 prep for the Ironman, Sacramento, Arnold and Australia Grand Prix. When i arrived in the US about 3 weeks before the Ironman i was struck down with the flu from hell!!! I mean i cannot discribe how sick i was!! i literally spent 10 straight days in bed and just sleep for up 18 hrs a day!! Now being so close to a show, this is not anytime to get sick!! now when i was able to get back to the gym i had only 10 days left for the Ironman and i wanted to live up to my word and be there, but it was a struggle everyday!! Come the day of the weigh in i was still not well even though i was saying i was ok, but i was determined to compete, so i went back to mny hotel room to eat and rest and something i ate just turned my stomach inside out and upside down!!! I lost like 12 lbs in 10 hrs!! I could'nt stop it from coming out of both ends!! the morning of the show, i could'nt even kick the bed sheet off me! Myself and Milos made the very hard decision to sit this out and man it broke my heart!!! The following days i had photo shoots with my sponsors but still was'nt well from what had happened on the weekend. I decided to sit out of the Sacramento and concentrate on the Arnold Classic. I started feeling ok, and with about 1 week for the Arnold i finally was able to train and stomach some food but as a results i was behind on my prep due to being sick now for like 4 weeks. I was in the shape of my life 5 weeks out and now with 1 week to go i was behind!! but the Arnold is not a show i am not going to miss if i am invited!! as a result you all saw it was my worst condition to date!! the experince was awsome but i was FAR from my best!! People are quick to judge but no one really knows what it took to just get that far!
After the Arnold i flew back to Australia for the Aussie Grand Prix. What could possibly go wrong now??? well i suffered a tiny cut on my foot when i arrived in Melbourne Airport from the cart i was pushing with my bags, not even worth a band aid!!! I had just flow for 24 hrs from Columbus to Australia and i was competing in 48 hrs! About 6 hrs after i arrived i noticed my whole ankle was extremely swollen and painful!! it was thobbing! The tiny cut had cut infected!! My immune system was just at a very low point and my body just could'nt fight anymore!! I stayed in bed all the next day and and managed to get to the gym 2 times for a quick workout but my ankle at this stage was the size of my calf and i could'nt believe a nic so small could be so painful!!! The next day of the show i took some strong pain killers to just get through pre-judging!! but the night show it was much worst!! the pain was so bad that i actually vomitted!! But i so much wanted to compete in my home country!! i got though the show and once again was FAR from my best!! I was having dinner with my family that nite and i can remember just asking my Father to drive me back to my room as i just wanted to sleep!!
The next day i went to the hospital and there was fear of blood poisining! but i was not that far yet and i had to stay in antibiotics for 2 weeks after the show. I took 6 weeks off training after that show and i can honestly say ive been clean now for over 7 months!!! I now only train 3-4 times a week!! im the smallest ive been in over 10 years (250lbs) but i feel AWSOME!! i feel so healthy and great!!! Im very busy with my PT business and prepping guys for show here in Australia!
Next year i know i will be back at my biggest and best ever after this much needed rest!! My body will be ready to grow but i knew before that could happen i needed to get healthy again!!
Thankyou everyone for your support!!!
Thankyou MD!!
God Bless
Luke Wood
