what happened this year? the comments I read suggested that Matt regressed as compared to last year

I didn't regress I think the quality of the class was that good. These guys were nuts! I will be back next year improved and ready to rock. I put up some comparison pics from last year to this. Big improvements just need a lot more size to hang with the big boys

Placings don't always reflect how hard the athlete worked or how much they improved or didn't. Often you just wind up in a much bigger, tougher, class.

I think it's tough for them to remember year after year esp with diff lighting diff guys. Ron saw me 2 days out and has seen me over the years. It was my best combo just way short against this caliber this year. The work is never done. Back to the drawing board and some normalcy for the family for a while.

A few of the guys in the DPP thought he looked better last year as well.

Nonetheless it was a staked class

These Masters shows get tougher every year. You have guys like Ko Chandetka, who has been a national-level guy for 20 years, finally nailing it 100%. And there are many, many more like him out there who are now old enough to enter these shows.

A lot of the masters guys in the 2nd callouses would have done well at open nationals!!

I will say that the conditioning from top to bottom in those classes was much better than the last open nats I went to. Where the top 7 to 10 are nuts but then it drops off

I was mind-blown as soon as I saw the over 35 welters...I mean some classe had comps with shredded glutes in the last callouts!
