I don't think it's a bad idea as a side show. Gives more of an ability to "compete" and is something different.

I like it. It was a good idea to raise excitement for a finale.

I look great, but i think the public does not understands good. We also have a deeply rooted culture to the old ways. It's much more exciting to see the live scores and the winner is known in real time.

On the contrary, it would not be fair to eliminate scores from previous rounds.

It actually was pretty exciting to watch if you were there.

The challenge round may not be the best way to compare every bodybuilder for an overall picture of the absolute best physique, but in 2005 it allowed Gustavo Badell to show just how freakin good he came into the show. He dominated. And nobody expected it, which MAY be a reason why it went away. They couldn't handle the fact that he beat the big boys. If it was only a lineup, he would have simply been pushed to the outside, with fans noticing his superior conditioning and balance, and being pissed that a monster holding water got the center stage.

I think the challenge round has a place in bodybuilding.

For sure Gustavo come in great, great condition. He deserve the place in the finals. But, in my opinion, i think Ronnie should win the challenge round, bigger, fuller and more harder than Gustavo.

Badell won this round by its contract with Muscletech.

But he looked incredible that night side-by-side with all the other guys. Don't you think he beat them in the individual pose challenges?

His condition was better. And while he wasn't a better bodybuilder (subjectively) than Jay or Ronnie, he looked more balanced, full, and ripped that night. In fact he was so good that night that he did beat them.

I'll never blame the promoters of today.

The AMI team is made up of very hardworking people who have the best intentions in mind for the event and it's fans. They are a rare breed. It's not like we're dealing with perennial scumbag outfits like the one Wayne Demilia operated for decades.

Anyway, I was there in attendance when all of this went down. I believe the crowd was trying to get into it, but ended up booing hard out of frustration. No big deal, though. It didn't ruin anyone's night.

AMI (and I guess Peter, too) were simply trying to make all of this shit more entertaining for a paying audience. Normally, bodybuilding can be VERY BORING. Hats off for those who try to break the mold...

No harm, no foul in my book.

I wouldn't say it was a bad idea, but definitely badly implemented.

When Dexter got knocked from 3rd to 4th that was it for me as far as the challenge round. He deserved 3rd that night. Which is why he sat out in 2005.

The part I loved about it was actual bodybuilding competitors, Mr. Olympias at that!!!, were judging the contest. NOT THE EXACT SAME JUDGING PANEL FOR ABOUT TEN YEARS STRAIGHT! Gee, who would you think would win....so many years in a row?
