Great article remembering the father of bodybuilding contests!
I wonder what Joe would think of all the new/NON bodybuilding divisions in IFBB contests?

Joe would be happy, industry is bigger and is all that matters for a businessman.

MR JOE WAS MORE THANJUST A BUISNESSMAN ..HE LOVED muscle and did it not only because of money.he had a passion for it , images.jpg
A white Toney Freeman would have 10 Olympias. If I could look like anyone I'd want to look like a prime Toney Freeman

It could be a passion at first, but then became nothing more than dollars.

    It occurs in all areas.

They had his passing on CNN. That's where I first heard about it.

I tend to agree with this.

With all due respect, Joe wasn't always fair with certain athletes he didn't think were marketable enough.
Danny Papilla was a prime example.

    Maybe?

All I know for sure is the original mission statement of the IFBB ( founded by Joe and Ben):
"The IFBB will be an organization for the purpose of promoting bodybuilding
    as a stand alone sport."

Although he did put Leroy Colbert on a cover when even Leroy warned him it would reduce sales. Think that was the first black guy on a cover. Joe was a great businessman, but in his heart he was a bodybuilding fan. The bodybuilding world is less without him.

If you see the new fairs in Olympia or Arnold, you will see hundreds sports different of bodybuilding. And in the stage, you have a lot of competitors who not are bodybuilders.

I feel that "sport" change too in this millennium.

My first issue of Muscle Builder with Robbie Robinson's head started it all for me personally. Joe was a visionary and a lot of people today are making a living in the fitness industry because of it.

agree , bob kennedy from canada was also a visionary.....
But I think if you and me had a bodybuilding, wrestling lifestyle series we would be the most popular guys in the industry in no time....we should think about starting something together???
