Default Next MD Cover: Phil Heath Roars! I am the Greatest!

Phil Completes His Six-Pack The Making of an Icon

Now that Phil Heath has captured six Mr. Olympia titles; he has moved into legendary and iconic status. Phil has become an unbeatable force of nature onstage. The man known as “The Gift” was the clear winner from the time he walked onstage at Joe Weider’s Olympia this year. Phil’s facial expression and body language transmitted the clear “I got this” message, as he exuded an aura of confidence that was entirely appropriate for one of the greatest champions of our time.

MD’s Peter McGough has known Phil since the beginning of his illustrious career, and in “The Making of an Icon: the Life and Times of Phil Heath,” the legendary bodybuilding historian traces Phil’s spectacular path to the pinnacle of bodybuilding achievement.

MD offers exclusive coverage of this year’s prestigious Olympia Weekend, with insightful articles from Peter McGough found only in this issue. “Phil Completes His Six-Pack – and Gears Up for 10 Sandows,” provides an in-depth analysis of this year’s Olympia lineup. “The Times They Are a Changing,” examines how established veterans are losing ground, as newcomers such as William Bonac, Justin Compton, Dallas McCarver and Nathan De asha take center stage. The bodybuilding landscape continued to shift during the post-Olympia tour, and Peter looks at “Eight Days That Shook the Bodybuilding World.”

Chris Bumstead recently became the youngest Canadian bodybuilder to ever turn pro, earning his pro card at the IFBB North Americans. Chris joined the ranks of other 21-year-olds in recent years, such as Dallas McCarver and Dominic Cardone, who earned the coveted IFBB pro status at age 21. It seems that the bodybuilding stars are really aligning for Chris, as he is now an official member of Team MHP. Something else that is perfectly in sync for Chris is his leg development, and he shares his wisdom in “Canadian Columns! How 21-Year-Old Chris Bumstead Built His Wicked Wheels.”

If clothes make the man, then delts make the bodybuilder. That’s because you will never have an exceptional physique without wide, round, full deltoids with all three heads developed to the max. Thicker, wider, rounder delts will make anyone’s physique appear more impressive. Follow the workouts in “The Ultimate Delt Program: Everything You Need to Know to Build Monster Shoulders,” and you will notice a very real difference— and so will everyone else.

you have to top these guys to be the greatest... when you equal a record you do not beat it, the 1st person to set the record still holds the title as being the greatest.
Heath is still 4th on the list

Not to mention he retired a winner... and in great shape. You can't say that about Ronnie. Not even close.

I think you may have accidentally left out somebody kinda' important (Schwarzenegger, lol).

Haney was the greatest in a lot of ways. Ronnie was the greatest in a lot of other ways. It's a stupid argument, there were both amazing. During Haney's era, Ronnie would have been booed off the stage, and during Ronnie's era, Haney would have been considered a guy with a great torso, bad arms, and horrible legs. Haney achieved his accomplishments super young, but also 1) didn't have nearly as competitive a field to go up against, and 2) didn't have to put the work in that Ronnie did to get there. Ronnie, by contrast, had to plug away for year after year, placing poorly his first several years before climbing to the top.

So maybe Haney had the greatest RESPONSE to training, other than Heath, allowing him to set his records young. Ronnie had the greatest WORK ETHIC (with the possible exception of Cutler).

Both are amazing. Leave it at that. But Heath isn't in either of their ballparks quite yet. If you were to put a side chest of Ronnie on the cover, next to Heath, not only would it not require Photoshop (like Heath's does), but it would also show just how much further ahead Ronnie was, than Heath will ever be.
