It's Easy to forget how much detail and separation phil had in those first five or so seasons, unfortunately had to lose some to carry the mass to take the big one.

Nice job Ron. The Night Of Champions was one of the second pro show I ever attended (the Olympia at MSG in 1998? was the first).

NYC really had a lock on pro bodybuilding in the early 2000s - a thrend that helped New York based Muscular Development build itself into a 305 page thick magazine for so many years!

If the 1990s was the second golden era for bodybuilding with Kevin, Shawn, Flex, etc - then the early 2000s was the East Coast Era with this show as the anchor.

** one correction to you article. I think Caprice Murry competed a second time as a pro in Mens Physique.

Thanks! I realized writing it that I missed only one of those years but it was when Evan won, dammit!

You are correct, Capriese did come back as MPD a couple years ago. I know him through his wife Jill, who used to work with me at the health club I met my wife at back in 1989.

MD was up to 400 pages at one point! Shit, those were the days when print mags still ruled.

I still can not understand how Darrem was able to beat Victor in the first edition.
