    Red face Bench Press Question

In this Vid, it shows Marky Mark doing a bench press with him laying down feet straight not bench down. Do you think this means he is hard core? Is this form better? I was at the bar this weekend and i had a long conversation with my buddies about how retarded this is.

    Your thoughts?

Better for what? Bodybuilding or putting up bigger numbers? If we're talking bigger numbers, no. Taking leg drive out of the equation is just retarded.
But then again, he gets more ass than I do so more power to the little guy!

Like caveman said, its taking out the leg drive which deff will make your numbers go down. I also believe it takes a lot of the lats out of it to-especially the lower. I've done a very similar movements but I put my leg out straight(like a leg raise) and I've also scrunched my knees up and put my feet on the bench. The only reason I use these these types are for a burnout set. It forces you to be stricter and makes it primarliy a chest, anterior delt, tricep excercise-more isolated. The leg raise inspired one obviously works the hell out of your abs, provides cardio aspect to it and needs a fairly steep weight reduction off the bar. However since the weight must be reduced the chance of any real strength or size gain is more limited. Think of it like barbell curls vs. strict concentration curls- similar type of comparison. 4 straight sets of bb/db bench and 2 with your legs up seems to work well.

I think what you also have to bear in mind is the artistic intent of the video director. The director doesn't care whether the form is correct or not, his main concern is how the scene looks. Most people watching that wouldn't know or care that his feet should be on the ground, but I personally wouldn't be watching a hip hop video for training advice.

of course, but seeing this vid at the bar i was laughing and a few of my buddies were like "man i gotta try that." Then physics came up and training - picture a bunch of muscle heads drinking arguing about form.. lol..

i think this is a joke and i cant say i would ever try it.

But the break down of the exercise by Caveman has be thinking twice.. lol

i occasionally train chest with my feet up on the bench (flat excercises only). i do this with barbell presses, dumbell presses and flyes.

in football, would would lay on the ground and do dumbell presses.

Called floor presses. Helps top end strength in the bench. Just never seen them done with legs straight.
