You should definately give it a shot!

Not everyone though gets as much out of a shirt though as I do. Your technique has to be spot on where when I'm raw, I can get away with a little more

Ya, i've always heard you have to learn how to use the shirt. Maybe you can answer a question for me. When a person starts using a shirt, does it help bring up raw numbers as well?

Well its not even necessairly using the shirt (although that is part of it) but the shirt doesn't allow for flaws in your tech. The more flaws in your tech, the less you'll get out of the shirt

Yes it does help to bring up your raw. I do one week raw, one week in the shirt. I still make progress on my raw bench when my focus is on the shirt, its just a little slower.

I probably should have recommended this before though, before you get a shirt, do you have training partners that can spot you and help you with the shirt?

Ya got some training partners that would help. My gym is starting to tend to the more "conventional idea of fitness". So there is no kinda powerlifting envolved. No chains, bands, ect. Not trying to sound brash or cocky, nothing like that. But when you start moving that kind of weight you kinda build an entourage so to speak. I guess you would know that though. So no problems getting help with shirt.

On the otherhand there is no one there that can give me pointers on using the shirt. So i guess it would be a hands on learning experience.

    Hahaha! Yeah.
That's amazing how many people pretend to be able to push 500lb+ from the chest... online. I guess they have NO CLUE of how forking H-E-A-V-Y that is. I am a 400lb (raw) presser myself, and except at meets, I (almost) never happen to encounter stronger pressers in the real life. At meets, of course, that's completely different, and i can see a bunch of people who are way stronger than I'll ever be, even in my next life. But, see, I very much doubt that they post their poundages all over the Internet).

Benched 730lbs yesterday in the gym. I have a meet first weekend in Dec.

I also benched 425lbs for 2 sets of 5 as down sets (raw) Shirt training is done until the meet so no more shirt PRs. I expect a pretty big PR at the meet.

Hi Travis, nice weights...I have never tried a shirt before...any recommendations you have for someone trying it for the first time. Do you use Metal or another brand?

Travis - no more shirt til the meet? that seems like a long time... is that a normal practice for you? you aren't worried about losing the groove in that time frame?

I use Inzer. To be honest, metal shirts suck balls. If you've never tried one before but want to give one a shot, I'd just get a single ply RageX. If however you want to compete in a multiply, nontested fed, get a double ply shirt right off the bat. No reason to waste time learning two different shirts. Personally I feel that double ply shirts are easier because you can wear them bigger, still get 200+lbs out of them though.

PM me should you need recommendations on getting a shirt

Yesterday was the first time I've been in the shirt in a month. I'm a little different than most of your bench specialists in that I don't do near the shirt work they do.

For most people, I wouldn't recommend it, but I've got that shirt groove down to a science. know it inside and out. I actually do better when I haven't been in it for awhile. I'm stronger and much faster. Plus I enjoy the opportunity to keep improving my raw work. When I'm in the shirt all the time, stuff starts to feel heavy and slow. Yesterday even 730 felt light and fast.
