Trust me! You do not want to go there.

When I hit my highest weight of 256, I had a MELT DOWN! I was like....OMG - I weigh closer to 300 pounds than 200 pounds!!!!!!

Really, it was a very, very, very bad day!!!!

Popping in to say "Hi"! I miss reading your thread daily. The Barracuda wall at work won't let me sign in. Have to settle for FB.

Lightbulb The Importance of having a Support Group

The first time I met Maria at the gym, I left with a pep in my step.

I had arrived with Gregg Valentino’s book in my hand, intending to finish it.

Maria had other plans for my time!

Even though I was on a bike ten feet away from her, and we had never met, she talked my head plum off!

    She’s in her 60’s.

That first day, she told me her whole life story. Well, just the part pertaining to health and fitness.

    She’s got a German accent.

    So, picture it…

I’m on the bike with my nose in Gregg’s book when she clasps her hands and bursts right in on my readable moment with, “Oh! I’m so excited to see another lady at the gym.”

    I looked around.

There was no one else there.

    She meant me!

    (I’m a lady, y’all!)

Every once in a while, when she needed a breath, she would pause and ask me a question.

And her eyes lit up when I told her about why I go to the gym. She gushed at me about the weight loss.

Then she had a million questions.

    No. Really. A million.

    A literal million.

It was kind of sweet and funny…that first time.

But have you ever seen the movie Ground Hog’s Day?

I swear to goodness she and I are trapped in that movie. We have the exact same conversation every single time we cross paths, and she insists that we exercise side-by-side.

And if I don’t, she’ll yell at me from across the room anyway.

So, it’s just best that I oblige her and hop on the machine next to her.

We were about half way through our usual conversation yesterday when her eyes lit up at a different moment than usual.

    And this is never good.

“Hey! I got a great idea! You could come speak at my weight loss group.”

“You have a group? We have a group here in this town?”

“Yes. We meet at that church on the loop. You should come speak to us.”

“OK. I like doing stuff like that. Tell me more about your group.”

“Well, we meet once a week and weigh. Then we discuss what we weigh.”

    “Is it working?”

“Not really. So far no one has really lost any weight.”

“That’s OK. It takes time. It took me two years to lose. Maybe that’s what I can talk about when I come to your meeting. How long have y’all been meeting.”

    “Since 2004.”

    “2004?”

“Yes. Since 2004 we’ve been meeting once a week. So far, nobody’s lost.”

Now, I wanted to say, Oh, somebody’s lost alright, but I let that moment pass.

I did dig a little deeper though, because I just had to know.

“So… do y’all serve refreshments at your meetings?”

“Oh yes! Of course we do! Sometimes cookies. Sometime fruit.”

    And…I….well…I….didn’t know what to say!

Every once and a while, you have to evaluate your support network.

Maria thinks she has a weight loss support group, but she’s really got a social club. They might as well take up knitting. At least that would burn more calories than eating cookies!

And I’ll go speak to their group once day next month.

More than likely, I’ll talk about the importance of having a support group!

And then I’ll leave….before refreshments are served. Thank you very much!

you're like a southern belle almost. The only difference is that you are a southern belle who is a little ripped gym rat in her free time when she's not at the cotillions and such.

Yes you are. And I think this is why I like you so much. You're not on this super-high pedestal. You just are.... Adina.

Also, on a completely unrelated note, if you are ever in a position to make fish stew.... do not use cod. It does not work.

I don't make fish too much. I just open a can of tuna!

    Why didn't the cod work?

overly salty, and it didn't cook down. there were big uncooked chunks of cod in the whole thing. Not good. Not tasty.

Well you can start smelling some romance cause a few weeks ago I
spotted a girl at the gym looking at me and then at the tv. As my friend
would put it we were "Eye fvcking" each other.
Eye fvcking- when you stare at someone you're interested in and then
when they catch you staring, you look away.

Anywho I saw her this morning and she was doing cardio and went up
next to her and realize that she had headphones on. Ball one!
