Juicy - Red Velvet cakes are the most fun to make. They have a whole bottle of red food coloring and vinegar!

    Adam - Thanks!

Nick, I can't bake without singing hymns. I would never be able to stop and explain my recipes. Plus, they would probably not let me lick the beaters before I put them in the sink...and I gotta do that.

You are very welcome. I wondered what happened to that guy from the last story where he was referenced.

    Lightbulb Waiting on a ....

I was visiting with a former student of mine yesterday at the gym.

She had set her stuff down on the one and only incline bench.

I don’t really think she knew I was there. She was just kind of sitting and staring.

I had already done two sets. Sometimes, I will switch exercises when someone hogs the bench, but not on set three of three.

    (That’s madness, I tell ya!)

I already had the weights in my hands, so I just politely nodded and said, “Do you mind?”

“Huh? What? Oh, I’m sorry. I’m just waiting on a tampon.”

Well…there’s an ice breaker right there.

And now, the bench she was sitting on was literally about six inches from the one I was about to be doing incline presses on.

I assumed she would move over so my pits would not be in her face, but since we were already on tampon-level closeness…

    Nope.

    She didn’t budge.

She just went on with her story.

I’ll spare you most of it and just let you know her mom was bringing her said-tampon.

And in an effort to change the subject off of EWWWWW, I said, “Why don’t you get your mom to exercise while she drops off your…”

Well, you know what she was dropping off!

She was still just kind of staring off into space when she said, “What? Oh, no. She won’t do that. Well, I mean, she will. She did. She joined with me before my brother’s wedding, and that’s over. She came for two weeks.”

I found this amusing, and felt like digging a little deeper, so I came back with, “Well, maybe you should get married and give her another reason to go come back.”

Now, I was saying this tongue-in-cheek, because she is still just 19. But she came back at me with….

“Huh? Oh, no. I’d have to find somebody I like first. Well, I mean I have a boyfriend and a kid. I’ve had the same boyfriend two years.”

    “You have a kid?”

“Yeah. Ten and a half months old. But he says I’m looking for Prince Charming.”

Now, y’all know I’m quick with my words and smart ass comebacks, but the thoughts just weren’t churching here. I wasn’t sure who he was? The baby? The boyfriend? But that’s OK. She kept going…

“I mean…I think you should like, and I mean really like someone if you’re going to marry them. I like him. He does weird things, I overlook them, but he doesn’t get on my nerves. I get on his nerves all the time. And he’s way weirder than me.”

I interjected here with, “But now, how do you know you get on his nerves?”

“Oh, he tells me. He says all his friends say their girls drive them crazy, but they love them to death. But I get on his nerves. He says that’s normal…”

    I stopped her here.

“You know, my ex husband got on my nerves all the time. But the man I love can do no wrong. He could do or say the exact same things as my ex, and I would think it was cute, charming, or funny. While my ex could do nothing right.”

I had to stop here because said-tampon tampon arrived!

And it was time for me to pick up Jonah too.

We crossed paths at the door on my way out, and I wanted to say something. I wanted to grab her by the shoulders and tell her don’t ever settle for less than you know in your heart you want, desire, and deserve.

But as I walked out the door my cell phone went off. I looked down to see I had a text message from my sweetie.

Nothing but a simple smiley face….with absolutely no reason to be sent other than to make me happy.

I looked up and smiled at the girl making a mad dash to the restroom…

A long time ago, I took the path close by. It was on a treadmill. I got on it expecting to see different scenery along the way. I did this in life, in love, in health, in everything.

Bless her heart. She will have to learn the same way every one of us did: there is nothing wrong with waiting for what makes you happy, no matter how easy or close by the nearest path to something else is.

And oh the things I’d have missed if I’d stayed where I was, on the close-by path.

I love reading (and listening to) all of these blogs. Even when i have no energy they give me just enough to get through the day. And random smileys are nice.

    PLEASE!!!!

That's like saying don't look at the naked person who just walked by.

That is why you bake in the first place...to lick the batter.
