    Here's my story.

I stared lifting just over 10 years ago weighing a mere 140lbs, Things were going good training wise, until my sister got ill with breast cancer (she was 21 at the time), through her first lot of treatment I coped well even though i was just 19, then when we thought things were going good her cancer returned, this time it was terminal, at the same time as this I found out my girlfriend was expecting our baby (my girlfriend was only just 17). Anyway I suffered a breakdown, I became aggrophobic, and did not go out. After my daughter was born I got my shit together and even though I suffered from panic attacks I soldiered on and got on top of them, then my sister died - 24 years old and dead from breast cancer, it was a hard pill to swallow.

Anyway I carried on moving forward with my life for the next year or so, until for no reason the panic attacks and anxiety returned, since that day I have battled them, and three years ago I decided to seek therapy, it helped and now, even though I suffer with anxiety I stay on top.

I'm still with my girlfriend and I have 2 wonderful kids, my lif eis getting back on track, but my physique has suffered, It has been a stop-start journey for the last 7 years, I'm currently about 245lbs and about 28% bodyfat, I turn 30 in september and would love to be in the best shape of my life. I would gladly accept Dave and Mr.G's expert help If I am chosen, as having someone there to kick my ass when needed could very well be exactly what I need.

    Here is my story:

Five years ago I was in respectable shape, around 200 lbs and 8% body fat. My wife and I were eagerly awaiting the arival of our first child. My mother-in-law was then diagnosed with cancer when my wife was 5 months pregnant. The stress caused my wife to go into labor early (6 months) and she was put on bedrest for the rest of the pregnancy.

Immediately after my son was born my wife refused to have anything to do with the baby. Post partum depression. She refused to feed him, change him, or even watch him. I spent the first month handling all the night time feedings while working full time. She refused to allow me to go to the gym, threatening to hurt the baby if I went. She also refused to get any type of treatment for her condition. My mother-in-law helped while she could, but she ended up getting sicker and passed away shortly before my son's first birthday.

My job was going OK, but the combination of long hours and little activivty caused me to start putting on weight. I gained about 30 lbs within the first 6 months while starting to lose all that hard-earned muscle I had put on. About a year later I got a promotion at work that would require my family to relocate to the midwest. The money was too good to pass up, so we went.

My company asked me to show commitment and buy a house, so my wife and I sold our condo back east and had a house built near the office I was managing in the midwest. I was working extremely long hours 6 days a week and continued to balloon up, but financially things were going well. Until corporate politics resulted in my boss being fired, along with all of his hires - including me.

I couldn't get a similar job out there, and within a few months I could no longer afford the payments on the house or the cars. I had to sell all our new furniture to buy food. We tried to sell the house but couldn't find a buyer. We finally decided to pack up our stuff and head home. I had to borrow $3,000 from a family member to pay for the moving truck.

To make a long story short, we ended up losing the house, I lost my car, and we had to cash in our investments to come up with the money to get an apartment back home. I was able to find a job, but at only 60% of what I was making. My wife was going to go back to work once we got my son into school.

During the physical required to get admitted to school, the doctors noticed something unusual about my then 3-year old son and refered us to a specialist for some more tests. They diagnosed my son with Autism. He was going to need special schools, and since it's vitually impossible to get a babysitter for an Autistic child, my wife wasn't going to be able to go back to work. We really struggled financially, and there were times when there wasn't much food in the house.

Then more bad news. The company I was working for wasn't able to get the venture money they needed to continue, and I got laid off. And by this point I had gained so much weight that I was starting to have episodes of sleep apnea where I would wake up in the middle of the night unable to breathe. I started to get chest pains.

In November 2006 I went to the doctor to get checked out. I now weighed 297 lbs. I forced myself to take out my bodyfat scale when I got home and found out I was at 47.8% body fat. I felt like shit all the time, couldn't sleep at night, and was flat broke. I decided that I had to do something about it or else I wasn't going to be around to see my son grow up.

I joined a gym right after Thanksgiving and started watching what I was eating. I told my wife she wasn't going to stop me from working out any more, and if she didn't like it, she could leave. I started going twice a day to the gym, cut way back on my carbs, and made sure I was getting enough protein. And the weight started coming off.

I lost 18 lbs my first month, and continued to lose about 3 lbs a week after that. As of yesterday I had lost 69 lbs of fat and added 10 lbs of muscle so I am now down to 239 lbs and 31% body fat from 297 lbs and 47.8 body fat. Not too bad for 4 months. I still have a long way to go, but I'm getting there.

I feel better, can sleep at night, and am starting to fit into clothes I haven't worn in 4 years. And I am also starting to get close on a few job offers - before companies would interview me and not hire me because I was so heavy. If all goes well, I should have 2 offers this week...

Like I said before, I still have a long way to go, but I'm getting there. My goal is to take off another 60 lbs of fat and add on 30 lbs of muscle so I can get to 210 lbs and 5%. I hope to have the fat off by mid summer so I can start bulking up in the fall. If all goes well, maybe I'll enter a contest next spring just to prove I can do it...
