Well fuck, seems like I've found the right workout message board this time, where people also have great taste in music...

MEGA-Meshuggah fanboy here as well (and drummer myself)

That said, Thordendal is definitely one of my fav metal guitarists ever, and his and Meshuggah's style have spawned a whole new subgenre of metal in the last few years, called "djent".

If you guys want more music like Mesh, I urge you to check out bands like Textures, Animals As Leaders, Periphery, Bulb, Tesseract, Xerath, Hacride, Mnemic, Threat Signal, to name a few...

This is the best possible music to really get my going in the gym!

"Djent"??? what the hell does that mean?
I've heard Quantum metal and other scientific and physics related titles... but that a new one for me...
TGP, being from Austria, are you a big fan of BEHEMOTH? Eastern block countries seem to also put out some extreme metal also.... what bands from that area, are worth checking out? I crave DEATH METAL!!!!
I always have a Meshuggah song in my head at ALL times....
you get to go to all the Metal Festivals too... LUCKY FUCKIN BASTARD!!!! CHEERS!

MESHUGGAH - VIDEO INTERVIEWS WITH TERRORIZER and GUITARIST MAGAZINE
-Marcin Kaminski of Poland's Guitarist Magazine conducted an interview with guitarist Marten Hagstrom of Swedish experimental extreme metallers MESHUGGAH at this year's Knock Out festival, which was held on July 11-12, 2009 in Krakow, Poland. Watch the chat in two parts below.

-In a recent interview with the Sonisphere web site, MESHUGGAH guitarist Marten Hagstrom stated about the songwriting process for the band's next album, "We never write as such while we're on the road. What we've got is some leftovers from the last album that we could work on and pick up again. We're playing around with some loose ideas and I've got a couple that I'll start to work on when I get back home. But as far of really getting into it and just mashing away, that's going to happen in late August." He added, "I'd say right now we have one track that needs to be remodelled and then it's good to go. Apart from that, it's just bits and pieces right now."

When asked how long fans will have to wait before they get to hear the new MESHUGGAH stuff, Hagstrom said "Well, we're a really slow band. A lot of times there're four years between albums. Sometimes it has to do with the writing process itself, sometimes it's to do with the technical stuff, like how to go about the recording it. This one I'm thinking will be another two years — hopefully it's shorter."

I am surprize not one of you mention Ton Iommi. MTV vote Iron Man, the number 1 Heavy Metal song of all time. Black sabboth originated Heavy Metal songs. Alot of riffs and chords, that Tony Iommi has done, are now being immitated by these artists.

I'm not too much into the ordinary death metal myself, coming from a prog metal background, I need my music to be quite technical to enjoy it.
I prefer techdeath, or progressive death metal (like Death, Aborted, Necrophagist, Beneath The Massacre, Bloodbath, or stuff like that).

However, you might wanna check out Belphegor, they're an Austrian death/black metal band, and it seems they're quite popular.

Belphegor as a band are lucky. They are sign to Nuclear Blast records. just getting signed is an accomplishment in itself. I haven't really listened to them but, its something about their sound that does not agree with me...
im down with satanic music.... maybe i need to not judge before i listen.
TGP, im sure you've had the chance to see them at local shows in your area. how is their personality? do you think their "success" has gone to their head, so to speak???
I've run into local bands here and eventhough they are nobodies, they act like FUCKING ROCKSTARS!!!! thats some funny shit. you know what i mean??? How bout you MP584???

Yeah, as I said they're douchebags, idiots, they really think they're rockstars, which is absolutely not warranted...

Getting signed isn't really much of an accomplishment any more nowadays, I can tell you.
Record labels see a band working and selling a lot of records, and they'll immediately sign a dozen bands that sound exactly simmilar, just to also get a piece of the pie.
In the end we'll have a flood of bands that all sound the same and it all becomes completely boring again.

You're better off when you don't depend on a record label, but try and get your stuff out to the public by yourself, like over the internet. There are so many talented bands out there, which you'd never find out about if it weren't for the internet.
And many of those tons better than signed bands...

Dimebag for sure heavy metal wise.

But if your going to compare kirk hammet which is not heavy metal and less skill, then John Petrucci owns him regardless.

Fuck yes, just got he new Augury album, it's awesome!

And yeah, I love Nile, Sanders is an amazing guitarist. Have seen them live twice now and they didn't disappoint.

You should also love Cryptopsy btw, their drummer is insane!
