1) You won the 2010 Atlantic City Pro then missed the Top 10 at the Olympia 2 weeks later, can you explain what happened? A) NO, CAN YOU? I WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO EXPLAIN HOW I WON THE ATLANTIC CITY PRO AND TWO WEEKS LATER, WHEN I WAS EVEN BIGGER AND DISPLAYING ONE OF MY BEST CONDITIONS EVER I WAS LEFT OUT OF THE TOP 10. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT THE JUDGES WERE LOOKING FOR. MAYBE THEY HAD THEIR MINDS ALREADY SET ON MY NOT SO GOOD PERFORMANCE OF THE YEAR BEFORE AND DIDN'T REALLY TOOK A GOOD LOOK AT ME. WHAT CAN I SAY...IT'S A MYSTERY? ON THE OTHER HAND, WHEN THE SHOW WAS OVER MANY CAME TO ME, PHOTOGRAPHERS, PRO ATHLETES AND FANS TO LET ME KNOW I SHOULD HAD BEEN IN THE TOP TEN! NO ONE PUT IT IN WRITING, WHY? I DON'T KNOW. THE ONLY PERSON THAT I SAW TAKE AN INTEREST IN MY POSITION AT THE SHOW WAS DORIAN YATES ON HIS MD COLUMN WHERE HE MENTIONED SOMETHING THAT I THOUGHT EVERYONE WAS FORBIDDEN TO MENTIONED, THAT I BEAT RONNIE AND JAY IN THE 2005 CHALLENGE ROUND AND THAT I HAVE RECUPERATED AND I'M BACK IN GREAT FORM. I APPRECIATE THAT PAT IN THE BACK.
2) You added another "Badell" to your tribe, how did that go and how have things been since? A) YES, MICHAEL GUSTAVO BADELL. HE'S NOW 8 MONTHS OLD AND EVERYTHING IS GOING GREAT WITH HIM AND HIS TWO BIG SISTERS, BARBIE ANN (7 YR. OLD) AND NICOLE MARIE (2 YRS. OLD). BESIDES BEING A BODYBUILDER, I’M A FAMILY MAN I ENJOY VERY MUCH THE BEAUTIFUL FAMILY GOD HAS GIVEN ME. I KNOW FOR SOME IT SOUNDS WEIRD BECAUSE IT'S NOT COMMON IN THE SPORT.
3) What does Gustavo have to do to get back on track in 2010 to serve notice to the world that you are not done? A) I THINK I GOT BACK ON TRACK IN 2009 AND THIS 2010 I WILL CONTINUE THAT FOCUS AND HARD WORK. MAYBE THIS IS MORE OF A PUBLICITY DISADVANTAGE BUT I WILL CONTINUE GIVING A BATTLE UNTIL THE JUDGES RECOGNIZE MY HARD WORK! I'M VERY CONFIDENT WITH MY CORNER, CHAD NICHOLLS AND MY FAMILY. 4) What is the difference for your mind set in Winning & Losing? How do handle it? A) LIKE EVERY ATHLETE THAT ENTERS A COMPETITION, YOU WORK HARD AND PREPARE TO TRY TO WIN BUT HAVE TO HAVE IN YOUR MIND THAT THEIRS IS A POSSIBILITY THAT SOMEONE COMES IN A BETTER CONDITION AND BEATS YOU. SO YOU ALWAYS HAVE TO CARRY TWO BAGS, WINNERS AND LOSERS. NOW, I DON'T THINK ANYONE CAN BE PREPARED FOR BEING MISJUDGED WHICH IS WHAT I THINK HAPPENED TO ME IN THE MR. OLYMPIA, HOW DO I MANAGE THAT? WELL, AT THAT MOMENT IT WAS VERY FRUSTRATING, IT WAS A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT BUT NOT ON MYSELF, IT WAS A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT ON THE SPORT THAT I HAVE PRACTICED MY WHOLE LIFE. THEN YOU FIND MOTIVATION ON PEOPLE'S FEEDBACK AND OF COURSE MY FAMILY AND YOU JUST HOPE THE SPORT WILL CHANGE AND ALL OF US WILL GET FAIR COMPARISONS AND PLACING'S... 5) What advice would you share with someone wanting to become the next Gustavo Badell? A) IT'S A DIFFICULT ROAD, YOU GOT TO HAVE A STRONG MIND, DETERMINATION, DISCIPLINE, HARD WORK, AND VERY IMPORTANT, PERSEVERATION. IT IS A VERY SUBJECTIVE SPORT, IF YOU ARE NOT CONFIDENT ON YOURSELF, JUDGES CAN SHREAD YOU TO PIECES, YOU GOT TO BE A FIGHTER AND AIM HIGH!

Thanks. Actually, the Atlantic City Pro is no longer in existance but there have been a few new ones added to the 2010 Calendar and I'm certain Gustavo will select the one he will be most competitive in!

The Contest Promoter moved to South Florida, left Jersey behind.
He did a great job but understandably has changed directions and focus.
