A BODYBUILDER has been jailed after police uncovered packs of anabolic steroids with a street value of more than a quarter of a million pounds stashed at his home − the largest ever seizure of the muscle boosting drugs by West Midlands Police.
Specialist search officers found almost 50,000 pills and around 1,500 liquid vials when they searched Simon Fans home in Webster Close, Wylde Green.
The team − acting on intelligence that the 40-year-old was illegally supplying steroids − found an array of substances including quantities of stanozolol, nandrolone decanoate and drostanolone.
They also uncovered several boxes of pills packaged as somatropin but forensic tests were unable to prove the exact make-up of these tablets.
The massive haul is estimated to have a street value of £270,000 and is believed to be the largest ever seizure of steroids − a Class C drug − by West Midlands Police.
Fan admitted 10 counts of possessing anabolic steroids with intent to supply and at Birmingham Crown Court on Friday (April 19) he admitted the offences and was jailed for 14 months.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Alex Franklin, said: "There were drugs scattered all over the house the search team found steroids in every room except the bathroom.
"Fan claimed he was not involved in the supply of the steroids and that his role was merely to package up the drugs for someone else − but the judge dismissed his claim and ruled he clearly had a key role in the supply.
"Steroids are class C drugs its not an offence to possess them for personal use but it is an offence to supply them to others. Its hard to argue that £270,000 worth is just personal use!"
West Midlands Police executed the search warrant at Fans home in October 2011.
