Its a painful procedure but it might be worth it for him in the long run.
As a person who had/has issues with veins on legs(I had removed the great saphenous vein from my right leg..). I need to tell you that in it is not looking good for Nick. The reason why he has so bad varicose veins in his calves is because his great saphenous veins are damaged. You can see how huge and dilated they are. Once your great saphenous veins are fucked. The smaller ones can't keep up pushing the blood back up to his body and become damaged as well. For him the only reasonable solution to no making it worse is to stop lifting heavy where you are holding breath during the lift and create big pressure on the veins and drop body weight to like 200lb.. If he will continue pushing his body like this the damage to his veins will continue and once there is enough damage the veins will collapse. That will result in really bad skin damage(ulcers) and he can develop blood clots in those veins that can travel to the heart and cause heart attack or to the brain and cause stroke.. Like I said at this point the damage is already too great. Especially due to damaged great saphenous veins. So jsut removing his varicose veins in his calves will not work. It would put only more pressure on his saphenous veins and damage them even more.. He will not stop with bodybuilding, because like he says "it is nothing to be worry about". Well will see what he will say in next 5-10 years let alone in next 15-20 years.. It will be no fun I can tell you that..

        Interesting, cheers for your input...

close up there is some discolouration on the skin, wether that's circulation or pump etc who knows but as you say surely those veins are not healthy. I imagine they will become painful?

That discoloration is translucent veins trough thinning skin. Once the skin gets damaged and there will be small ulcer it is very hard to heal that wound and yes venous insufficiency is painful, discomfortable feeling of pressure, itching.. This is common in older people, but if 25 kid has that problem. I can't imagine how it will look like in next 20-30 years...

I am ok. I stopped bodybuild. Dropped like 20kg of muscles. No more steroids. I do only calisthenics for resistant training and a lot of functional training. I had also a lot of back issues etc.. from regular bodybuilding training. Now my core is crazy strong. Which is also helping my spine a lot and I also enjoy cycling. Which is even stronger drug than lifting iron that's for sure.. Most people will never experience how great sport cycling is. Because it takes years to build that endurance and also you need high quality bike that will actually fit you and also good quality cycling clothes.. All that together and riding 30-40km/h. That is completely different experience than trying some cheap bike for kids wearing jeans..

There is no chance that it won't get worse and stay like this?

I was always under the impression that it was degenerative.

In reality, there is nothing special in cycling or bodybuilding, sports practice is in itself addictive, you just have to give it enough time to develop tolerance to pain and suffering to be able to enjoy the training sesions and produce the stimulation of pleasant hormones.

Bodybuilding is also special, because most people will never experience how it feels to have decent amount of pumped muscles during the training. I remember my first visit in the gym really well. I was like how can someone like this.. But cycling is different, because it is not just about your body. You need also good equipment... Most people will never buy a bicycle that is expensive like motorbike or a car and that is what I am talking about.. I also don't enjoy riding some shitty bike wearing jeans.. But once I am in my cycling gear on a good bike. That is completely different story... I enjoy it because you are outside and you can visit new places etc.. The worst part about road biking are cars.. That's why I like Mountain bikes more and more. It is great relax in nature... Nobody around you. Just birds singing and your breath.

That's the problem, it's dangerous, I've considered it but for the cars risk I've never gotten into it,

I suppose everything is more comfortable with a good bike, but in the end you must suffer when you go up a hill, it is cold or it starts to rain. And like you said, you must go where there is no traffic or else it sucks.

For me it is enough to go for a walk, I like to go when everyone is at home eating or sleeping. It is much cheaper and allows me to have energy to lift.
