  • Forum Upgrades This Week

    Hi Everyone,

    You may have noticed that the forums were down this past week. As I posted in the announcement, we have implemented several upgrades to combat the continuing and frustrating issues that have plagued the forum. We apologize that this had to be done during the day but we needed the help of several key individuals who would not be available at any other time.

    1. We have increased security.
    2. We have increased storage and response time.
    3. We have deleted any threads older than 1 year with fewer than 3 replies to them.
    4. We have archived long-standing threads that have been around for greater than 2 years but are still accessible through search
    5. We now have a managed team that will monitor the server 24/7 to prevent any further attacks or outages giving you a safer and happier experience.

    The experience in the forum has been horrible in the last few weeks and I was losing the motivation to post, I hope that the problems will be fixed once and for all.

      Nothing is ever 100%, Beti, but these upgrades were done because the experience was horrible, and I was getting sick of it just as much as you were.
      We have been working very hard to come up with a plan that would take care of all the ongoing issues and we believe that we have. We will continue to monitor to make sure that the forum is performing the way it should.

      You're right to be upset, and that's one of the reasons why I insisted on taking action on this. It needed to be done, and the changes implemented will make everyone's experience a lot better.

            We just finished all of the upgrades and the testing, and so far - the forum is performing really well!

                  Thanks much. We had a good weekend. The forum did really well with all of the updates that we're posting.
                  The main problem is we have a database that is really big. And not surprisingly so, the forum's been around for a long time.
                  So we're trying to prune as much as we can, but keep the threads that you know and love.

                    I worked in the early days of IT, 40 years ago in the USMC.
                    Back then it was lot more simple but tedious with the old DOS commands and bland green screen.

                    IT systems are a LOT more complicated today and I applaud anyone with the persistence and knowledge to work in the field.
                    All I know for sure, is you were right to clean out a lot of the old "dead wood" and free up storage space.

                    I can't say anything else constructive because I honestly don't know much more about modern systems.

                    I'll simply thank you for your efforts and continue to enjoy MD forums.

                    * PS / I recently started my reg MD print magazine subscription. I really enjoyed holding the actual pages as I read.
                    Brought me back to the old days before the internet.
