  • If PED's Didn't Exist Would You Bodybuild?

If PED's didn't exist would you bodybuild?

    It's a simple question.....what do you think?

I started with no PEDs, knowing that they were a big part of the sport-- and that I would one day do them, not because I wanted to "be competitive" or "go pro", but rather, because I wanted to look a certain way, and from all of my reading and research, a certain amount of PEDs were required to hit that target. So, I planned on going that route from the beginning-- but ALSO decided I would build a natty foundation for several years, and do at least one natty show, before I turned to the dark side-- to "prove to myself" that I knew what I was doing with my training and diet, and NOT be over-reliant on drugs.

Looking back-- yes, I would have still gotten into bodybuilding if PEDs didn't exist-- but I think I would have gotten bored with it much faster, and not stuck with it as long. I think the returns on effort would have diminished to a point, after maybe 10 years, where I would just not be that excited-- it wouldn't be worth sticking to that strict of a diet and rearranging my life around it, given that I was no longer serious "BIG" progress.

I became a sport or lifestyle fanatic by looking at bodybuilding magazines with athletes improved to death.

I never felt inspired or thought to myself, "I want to look like Brad Pitt" or any fitness model or natty bodybuilder. I wanted to look like Cutler, Priest, Victor, Badell and those guys.

Paradoxically I never took the step to the dark side of using Peds, although I have taken some "supplements" like ephedrine or clen.

So, I feel like the images of superheroes and bodybuilders were essential in getting me hooked on lifting and dieting. Without those early influences I would certainly lift, but not at the same level of intensity and would not follow a well planned diet either.

                lol

True, but I learnt a lot about diet and training and how being a grumpy mood in a prep wasn't soley because of gear.

                  I've been a competitive BB on some juice ( mid 80's ) and totally clean ( 90's ) .
For me, using drugs is irrelevant to being a bodybuilding.

For example , it's similar to benching using a modern bench shirt vs raw.
The essential requirement is having a passion for lifting wts!

To me , this is like asking about your desire to have sex with females, if they didn't have Viagra .

Trained from age 12 to 21 natural, and been clean for a long time now. No plans on competing, so why take anything? Manipulate everything with food.

Trained from age 14 to 27 naturally, competed natty from 1989-1995, I would have been more than happy to stay natural except I knew I had hit my limit and wanted more.
