When they banned ephedra, they did it because it came from the ma huang plant -- used in Chinese medicine for thousands of years, supposedly. Well, coming from an herb, it couldn't be patented, so there was no way for pharma to make money off of it -- while developing other pharma drugs that they WANTED to make money off of (Alli/orlistat). And because it came from an herb, it could be marketed as a supplement. In America, supplements aren't regulated by FDA (Food and Drug Administration) -- so again, there was no way for pharma to make money off of it, or government to regulate it, and it worked GREAT -- so all of the supplement manufactures were making big money off of it.

Coincidentally, the synthetic counterpart to ephedra -- ephedrine (and pseudoephedrine) -- CAN be patented, and is used in over-the-counter cold medications, such as Bronkaid and Primatene. So, you can still buy those over-the-counter, to this day, with no prescription. (And I still use it with clients for fat loss purposes.)

However, when you buy a product with ephedrine in it (over the counter), to this day, they require scanning your driver's license, and limit sales to 2 boxes per month. Our federal government tracks sales of ephedrine-containing products -- watching to make sure that nobody is trying to be 100 boxes at a time, in order to cook meth. Still semi-regulated to this day, but still legal, never banned.

Many people buy ephedrine in Canada, I think it's cheaper or you can buy it without leaving a record with the government.

In any case, the meth labs are either using ephedrine illegally or have figured out an alternative way to produce it.

DMAA was banned for the same reason.

Ironically, my daughter wanted to watch the show "Breaking Bad", so I just started watching it for the second time through. In the first season, they are using pseudoephedrine to cook meth -- buying vast quantities of cold medication from the store in order to do so, and struggling to get their hands on enough of it. The main character (Walter) eventually realizes that he doesn't need to use pseudoephedrine, he can use some other chemical and make the meth even better.

SO, I'm guessing that the meth cookers figured that out, in fact -- not just in the show -- and that's probably how it's being done now, most of the time.

I actually just binged it last month. I usually don't watch shows while they are current and everybody is buzzing about them; I prefer to watch them after the buzz has started to die down, and try to really formulate my own opinion, without being influenced by the buzz.

I actually thought it was mediocre at best. The acting was great, both Saul and his wife/partner -- she was amazing -- and Saul's brother (Michael whatever-his-name-is) stole every scene he was in.

But I thought the actual execution of the show left a lot to be desired. The director (Vince Gillian) seems to want everything he films to have "heavy emotional weight" -- which is cool -- but with Saul, I just feel like he didn't nail it. It was TOO slow, lots of scenes that were "designed to set the mood", and they just seemed superfluous and needlessly slow, with no payoff.

I also felt like it was 2 different shows -- the "what's going on with Mike" show, and the "Saul" show -- and the connection between those two plot lines didn't really seem to be all that needed, like they could have just made 2 different shows out of it. I felt like that dynamic took away from Saul's actual story arc, which could have been strong enough on its own, without the Mike story.

As I got deeper into the show, I found myself eagerly awaiting scenes with JUST Saul, when he got all crazy and schemey and Saul-esque -- and they were farther and fewer, the further the show went along.

Starting "Breaking Bad" the second time, I'm seeing how much better the scripting was, the pacing, the dynamic between Walter and Jesse right off the bat. I'm only 5 episodes in, and second go-round, it definitely seems to be "a cut above".

The last two seasons of Saul were FANTASTIC!

The final season’s filming was delayed because Bob who plays Saul had a heart attack. He’s fine now, thankfully.

I hate series, life is too short for that, how the hell do you have time for that? I get stressed thinking that I have to watch 5 seasons of 10 one-hour episodes or something like that.

I also hate movies that are unnecessarily too long, which most are, especially that last more than 120 minutes.

Same here I never jump right in to the TV shows but rather wait it out and also not much time to watch the shows anyways between work, family and gym.Last time I've seen good show was probably Ozark.
Not a GOT or Walking dead fan . Not sure if I am missing out or not.Maybe I’ll start Yellowstone .

What did you think of it? I'm tempted to go see it with my daughter -- I have the feeling that the visual experience and production will be amazing, but the story and character-lines will be top-shelf cliche, kinda' makes me not want to give it a chance, given the run time and investment in a near-4-hour movie.

I would rather see the Olympia bikini.

Some movies can be long, but it must be justified, but critics seem to like long movies and directors think that makes them good products for trophies.

Ron, have you watch Sick? For me was great, very similar to scream.
