Worst of all, when I take rest days, I have more pains throughout the body than when I train.

At the end of the day, life is about losing everything you worked to get.

Throwing in the occasional abs/calfs only session or an arm only day is almost like a rest day for the cns
I train 5 days a week Push, Pull, Arms, Legs means every bodypart done every 5/6 days. If run down I might just do an hour light cardio and postpone next session.
Same as training heavy on basics. You have to fiight your battles.
I'll give that a try with just a heavy set after some low rep build up sets . I think building up some cardiovascular fitness would help as well, all I do is walking, about 45 mins a day getting to work.

I produce a lot of adrenaline when I train and it takes hours to settle down after a workout. CNS gets fairly rattled, I'm not a super relaxed type so always have a little anxiety in general, has the benefit of helping me get things done

I hear y'all and feel it too!

Husband is now 60 and I am knocking on 55. I have been beyond fortunate to have never had more than a niggling strain or pull here and there. Husband on the other hand, has a lot going on. We actually took a trip to Mexico in the fall for him to have PRP and stem cell therapies. We are exploring all options to mitigate/hold off on surgery(ies) for as long as we can. I have naturally adapted my training to support his. On my solo days, I do the movements/exercises he can no longer tolerate. I am not full on killing myself like I used to. There are times when good ROM, proper form and volume are enough to remind me what sore feels like.

Thanks for the tip on the oil. I'm going to order it!

I still love training. While I am not motivated 100% of the time, I am committed/consistent. All it takes is seeing older individuals hobbling in and out of stores, obviously in pain, to keep me moving. I want to age in a way that keeps me upright!

I learnt from Dr Jordan Peterson fairly recently that anxiety properly harnessed can actually be used for self benefit!

In my 60's now just train for a pump keep that blood in the muscle. Upper body pretty much the same legs lose the size. Pretty much pain free except for knees ocassionally throbbing and impingement in my right lat.

At 40 I started TRT. At 42 I switched from lifting and doing a last couple of powerlifting contests to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Almost nine years later I recognize these, and eating much cleaner, as life changing for me. Oddly enough, in all my years lifting (started in a gym at 15), I always wanted to look like a bodybuilder, but the physique eluded me until I started rolling BJJ. Now I'm only lifting a few times a month because I like to chase the pump, but my doctors say I'm doing great, and I can attest that my cardio is better than before and I'm leaner than I ever have been. So TRT and BJJ. That's the ticket.
