  • Is Kamal going to be the next Al Beckles?

This thought literally just popped into my head.

After Kamal won the 2019 Olympia (212), I drove down to his house in Northampton to grab a video interview for MD.

I remember back in 2014 when I was writing for FLEX magazine and he told me (for my column) that after moving back to the UK (after 12 years in Qatar competing for their national amateur team), he wanted to get his pro card granted and stand on the Olympia stage just ONCE, then call it a day.

Anyway, we all know how differently that went for him, but, back to my visit to him after his big win in 2019, Kamal told me his new plan of going for another FIVE years, then retire.

Going off that plan now, this would mean he would be due to retire next year in 2024.

But! Much has changed, he’s moved to America with his family and tells me he is LOVING it and was the best decision he’s ever made- and, of course, he has outgrown the 212, has proved himself in the Open…and now along has come the MASTERS Olympia! A title I think he could win several times.

So, with a current 230lb, potentially best EVER Kamal at 51/52 years old walking onstage in Columbus this weekend, I just don’t see him walking away as soon as next year.

Personally, I think we could have another Albert Beckles on our hands here with a physique that keeps bringing it for at LEAST another five years!

Crazy to think his first show was back in 1994.

Nice to know that after Dexter retired, we have another top pro leading the way for the older guys!

Kamal hasn't shown significant signs of decline yet. He is a phenomenon just like Dexter.

I can't see another bodybuilding staying at the top as long as Beckles. For a lot of his career Beckles was probably only taking gum drop doses.

He’s still alive mate! Training hard I hear.

I bumped into him at either the 2001 or 2002 Olympia once, he was judging, super friendly guy. A real gentleman.

In Ron's interview he said he'd stay for another year, but maybe he'll get bored in retirement and come back. My doubt is if the Master is stimulating enough for him.

He has no major injuries, seems healthy and is top 3 at the 212 and COULD win an open show (he should have last year).
