Joe did some training but neither could win Ben Weider's basement contest .

Obviously, they did more than anyone in promoting the sport of bodybuilding...so I give em that

I didn't realize how incredibly arrogant Mentzer was. At least that is how he came off to me in that documentary with the Peter M tapes

It's very good and all the dialogue in the film is by Mike Mentzer taken from different interviews. So it is literally all in his own words which is fantastic because he was such a good talker.

It covers his whole life from childhood through winning titles, the 1980 Olympia and his mental health struggles and recovery through to redemption.

Some of the best of the dialogue comes from the week long interview Mentzer did with Peter McGough in 1994.

Definitely worth an hours viewing on a lazy Sunday morning.

            Thanks for sharing.

I just finished reading "The Wisdom of Mike Mentzer" by John Little.

Read his HD Training book about 18 years ago or so.

I watch this newly mixed doc.

It is something common in many self-proclaimed geniuses or innovators.

Value his knowledge and ignore his person.

I crack on 'em both but I hope it's obvious that I consider them both did more than anyone to promote bodybuilding into a small but viable pro sport .

Plus they looked pretty buffed as young dudes back in the day .
Amazing how they started it all with a printing press in a Montreal basement.

                  Bingo

His self imposed arrogance provided a clear path for his self destructive behavior. Plus , unlike Arnold he refused to accept the haphazard, subjective nature of bodybuilding judging.
