I think there is something to be said for accumulating wealth to pass to your children but it is my opinion that it should not be all encompassing and important above all other things in your life

If you raise your kids to be grounded and to instill good values and stress the importance of hard work and striving for their dreams, wealth you pass down to them can allow them not to be beholden to others. However without those values and a strong work ethic, then the situation you describe becomes more likely

My father has always said he hopes to go in the ground while he is spending his last cent. Frankly, that is how it should be and I hope that is the case.

The older generation always wants to improve the living conditions of their descendants, that is quite reasonable and makes sense. But you can also give too many comforts and facilities, which will create a generation of lazy people with fragile mentalities that will go into depression at any unforeseen event or difficulty.
