i was always told to eat your BodyWeight (200lbs) x 20 =4000 cals.

If i was you i would weigh yourself tomorrow morning as soon as you wake up, write it down then everyday for 7 days eat 3500 cals and weigh yourself again after the 7 days to see if you gain anything, you should look to gain around .5 lb-1 lbs a week if you are trying to put on mass, maybe less or more depending on how much you want to gain.

if you gain too much weight then cut back a lil bit on the cals, if you dont gain nothing then eat a lil more 3750 cals for a week.

most important thing is when you weigh in make sure you empty your bladder first then weigh in, and then 7 days later make sure you empty your bladder before the weigh-in.

Actually this isn't bad advice. Guys like Ben White eat a 2/3rds of a bag of oreos on a regular basis. I used fast food to help me pack my weight on from 150lbs to 200lbs between the ages of 17 to 20... and I've never had a waist larger than 35"

Increase your calories, but not with junk. Stick with the basic compound exercises such as the squat and deadlift.

if your not growing your not eating enough period. of course the types of foods you eat and the ratios you eat in along with activity will effect which way you grow but its a fact if your not gaining any weight your not eating enough

And make sure you are getting enough sleep. Many neglect this important part of the equation.

the guy doesnt even know his carbs and fats intake...he is clearly under-eating. No need to rely on junk food to gain quality weight. Jnk food is usually a nasty combination of sugar and unheathy fats...unless you dont want tgo gain new pounds from bodyfat, up your healthy carbs and fats throughout the day. 3000 cals wont cut it for your frame

this is an old thread but i'll throw my .02 in . i had a client 3 years ago at 6'5" 226 and very lean that had trouble gaining weight. he also was not eating enough calories. i set him up on a basic mass building workout and increased his calories to around 7000 to start. [ yes its hard to eat that many clean calories and expensive] but he followed it and went from 226 to 258 in about 4 months. he moved off and i didn't see him for a couple years and when i did see him again i was pleasantly suprised to find he still bust ass and still eats fairly clean and packs all his food and eats every couple hours. now he's not as lean but still visible abs and i'd guess somewhere around 10-12 % bf and weighed 294 pounds . eat clean, eat often, and stay consistant !!

yea lol i dont mean to offend the poster of the junk food to gain plan and i know its popular among those who are heavily drugged or the people who have a hard time eating enough but it is extremely terrible advice. eating healthy food is very important especially for those involved in these sports. there are many ways to get these people on effective diets that are easy for them without including big macs and oreos. the people eating this crap daily are either completely ignorant to health or they dont give a shit. remember we are running our bodies on overload all the time, the least we can do is feed it quality nutrients and without all of the excess crap that it has to fight to get rid of.

I know the feeling. I gain if i'm eating more than 2000 cals a day when I'm lifting and swimming and I'm 6'1" 225 now! (about 20$ bf, sux)

I take in about 3000-3500 Calories a day.
Eat pretty clean compared to some people, no sweets, pop, fast food, stuff like that.

Any tips on a certain lifting split, or certain supplements. NON STEROIDS.

Jon your problem or question comes up time and time again. Its very common and the solution is simple. You need to eat more. No magic formula or secret supplement.

All successful bodybuilders and champions all had two great qualities. First, they knew how to consistently apply increased intensity and force their body's to make changes while providing proper time to rest and recover.
Second, they we all good EATERS.

If you have been around 200lbs for some time now then your currently providing your body exactly what it needs, including calories your burn daily, to remain at 200lbs.

The fix, Simple. Protein is at 200grams a day to start. You will eventually need more. Carb intake, I would determine this based on what you look like in terms of bodyfat to muscle ratio. If your lean, which at 200 lbs standing 6'7 tall you probably are I would keep them relatively high between 300 - to 500 grams a day. Keep your fats low if your carbs are way high like that.

Proteins come from GOOD quality foods. Chicken breast, turkey, Fish, Steak. Eat steak at least twice a week.

Carbs come from white rice, brown rice, oatmeal, potato's, pasta, NO BREAD.

Fats: RAW Cashew or ALmonds, OMEGA 369s

THats your menu. Eat like that, push your body as if god is coming out of you, and you will get large brother. Everything else is ICING on the cake.

Here is a huge secret that you'll need to do some homework on, know your glycemic index and how your body responds to food. Carbs in particular. Protein intake remains the same and increases with time. Carbs effect your body and make it release insulin. Lookup the hormone insulin and what it does. You want insulin high at certain times of the day and low and others.
