  • Question about insulin spikes during dieting for contest?

If i get a gluco meter to check my levels after carbs or as needed to see whether my body would be storing the carbs for fat or using them as i desired them to be used. What number should i be between. What do you guys think about this. I am not trying to sound stupid i believe that contest prep is a science and each person responds differently and i am trying to find some ways to make it a little easier.

This has got to be the most educated question I've ever read!

Insulin enters or ATTEMPTS to enter the fat cell at a higher threshold and this is the definition of SPILL OVER. It enters the muscle cell at a lower threshold.

Generally on a contest diet there are never enough carbs eaten to concern yourself with the height of the spike unless you are me as I can diet at basically a saturated state since I only do activities to burn fat that use fat.

That being said I believe that when looking to keep insulin at a low enough level to not have it be a concern you must use supplementation to aid and work along side of insulin. Try not to go above 160. However some respond to 160 the same others do to 300 so again I believe proper insulin mimicking should be done through supplementation.

People who are at a higher level of education understand the principles of blood sugar/insulin/muscle glycogen storage. These people incorporate the use of blood sugar monitoring to achieve their goals at a much quicker rate.

Chuck Rudolph of Scivation, Better known as the "RIPPER" since his clients ALWAYS get ripped, uses a glucometer on a regular basis very much like most use their gas gauge.

It was Duchaine that opened my eyes when it came to the use of a glucometer but it was Rudolph who gave me 20/20 vision as he explained the metabolics of insulin.

Insulin does things when its present and it even does things in its absence.

Anyone know how and why the body goes into ketosis? The actual metabolic signaling?

while on the topic, is there any point to spike insuling post training During Contest prep? some say no, and just use oats PWO but both times when i competed earlier i used dextrose post workout and those times still have been when i have gotten the leanest...

When you are dieting you are obviously limiting carbs it will make no difference to the spike or not since the muscle will be semi depleted at all times and at that point 50 grams of carbs is 50 grams of carbs. However, if you are fully glycogen loaded and spike insulin you will inevitably cause more harm than good as you will cause fat storage.

                Hope this makes sense.
