  • Lats really moving when i'm doing widegrip pullups

It feels like my right lat wants to pop out whenever i do wide grip pullups.

I feel it when I start pulling up, right when my arms are fully extended when i'm at the lowest/starting point of my rep.

Is that ok? or am i askin for damage.

Where exactly do you feel it? Is it around the scapula, below the scapula, or in the shoulder? Describe more fully what you mean by popping out. One thing when doing chins is to use perfect form and go fairly slowly. Fast explosive reps with alot of weight put alot of pull through the rotator cuff musculature which is really all that is holding the shoulder in place. If the pain is in the shoulder then it is likely because of the strain on the shoulder. If the pain is in the scapula then it is likely that either the rhomboids or the serratus anterior are not strong enough to maintain its proper position. If it is down below the scapula then you probably have slight strain in the muscle. In the first 2 cases work on strengthening this musculature. If you need help with exercise selection then aks me. In the case of a strain refrain from stressing the muscle to much with rest and ice. Then start back with light pulldowns before returning to chins.

Right here buddy.... I feel a lot of movement there, like my muscle is being pushed in and popping back out again. It's not a painful thing though.

Thanks for the picture. You dont know how that helps in at least narrowing things down. What is likely happening is you are felling a pull in the teres minor, teres major, or infraspinatus. Without being there in person and actively checking you out I can not distinguish between the 3. What you may be feeling also is you scapula upwardly rotating as you lower yourself and possible winging. Since you say it is not painful then there is probably not any damage occuring. By any means try doing pulldowns for a week or so. Also when you go back to performing chins do not allow yourself to drop quickly into the bottom position, because this puts a lot of stress on these 3 muscles along with others. Also if you are not already doing rotator cuff work then begin. Try this and if for some reason you continue having these problems or it becomes painful then rest, ice, and try adjusting your form.

Oh I forgot to include that it may be the scapula you feel moving. The 3 muscles I described earlier attach to it and it might be why you say they are popping out. Understand that the scapula moving is nomal and should be about the same on both sides during this movement. If it is not and you also have a problem of a wing scapula then you need to strengthen the rhomboids and serratus anterior. You can tell if you have a winging scapula if your shoulder blade pops up when you do a push up. Strenthen the rhomboids with rowing movements. The serratus anterior is best stimulated according to EMG studies with unilateral low cable crossovers. The key to hit the serratus is to add protraction of the scapula (movement of the scapula away from the rib care)

great info, i forgot to mention that i've been doing pulldowns for a whole month before this. Guess I should do them for a bit more then.

            Thanks.
