  • Dude, is that a DB in your pants?

    26-December 2011

    Wave 5, Week 1
    Legs

The new gym opened up at the end of November, unfortunately I didn't get to sign up until a couple days ago as I went on a business trip interstate for most of December. Unreal atmosphere there. None of this bullshit pop music playing. Just rap, techno, hard-style and metal. Plenty of big boys around and people who are there to train. Squat racks are in this caged off area with barbed wire on top. The vast majority of the machines are hammer strength.

To update on my training the last month and a half, it hasn't been spectacular. I ended up taking 3 weeks off this month to heal up a bit. Went one night to the gym for 20 minutes while I was away for a quick pump session. Deceivingly named 'Powerhouse Gym' which turned out to be a little apartment kind of layout lacking any quality machines and the members were douches.

Starting this new thread for a new era shit killing.

    Front Squat
    176 x 5, 209 x 5, 242 x 5
5/3/1 exercise replacing ATG squats. Had one or two more in the tank.

    HS Incline Leg Press
    198 x 12, 286 x 12, 374 x 10, 462 x 10, 572 x 8, 682 x 8

Very close to fail on that last set. The machine is unreal. No lower back issues or knee issue while going heavy.

    HS Hack Squat
    88 x 5, 132 x 5, 176 x 5, 220 x 5, 264 x 5

One rep short of total failure on the last set. Once again no lower back or knee issues when belted up.

    HS Unilateral Leg Curl
    33 x 12, 33 x 10, 33 x 8

Not a fan of this machine. Somewhat awkward to use but you get a good pump. I'll switch to the other machine next week.

    Unilateral Leg Extensions
28 lbs pump set ~ 40 reps per leg alternating

Just some pump work to get blood into the quads.

Cool, sounds like a pretty sweet gym!
Try not to let hurdles hold you down because they will always be there.

              27-December 2011

              Wave 5, Week 1
              Chest and Calves

              Nice quick session.

              Incline DB Bench Press
              71.5 x 5, 82.5 x 5, 93.5 x 12 (Rep PR)
5/3/1 exercise replacing flat BB bench press. Failed but believe this will sky rocket these next few months. Strength wasn't an issue, just endurance.

              Bar Dips
              BW x 10, +22 x 5, +44 x 5, +66 x 5

Mediocre compared to what I am capable of. Though worked well.

              Life Fitness Pec Flye
              ... ... 103 x 8

Love this machine. Absolutely no shoulder pain. Great pump. Performed 4 sets total.

              HS Standing Calf Raise
              120 x 10, 140 x 5, 160 x 5, 180 x 5, 200 x 5, 220 x 5, 240 x 5, 280 x 5

              HS Seated Calf Raise
              44 x 8 x 2, 66 x 5, 88 x 5

                      29-December 2011

                      Wave 5, Week 1
                      Back and Abdominals

Threw in 5 minutes on the stationary bike at the end to get some of this quad soreness out of the way. Sore right where the knee is.

Deadlifts were done on our deadlift platform.

                      Deadlift
                      319 x 5, 363 x 5, 407 x 7
Decided to continue on with this. However I assumed a 539 lb one rep max to work my numbers which is a 20 lb increase.

                      One Arm DB Rows
                      66 x 10, 88 x 8, 110 x 5, 121 x 5, 132 x 5, 143 x 5 (Weight PR)

Fairly easy. Had another couple reps in the tank. These DBs are heavier than the old gym.

                      Wide Bar Lat Pulldowns
                      100 x 12, 120 x 8, 140 x 8, 160 x 8, 180 x 8, 200 x 5, 220 x 4.5

                      One Arm DB Snatch
                      66 x 5, 77 x 5, 88 x 3, 99 x 3, 110 x 2

                      Hanging Leg Raises
                      BW x 15, +11 x 10, +22 x 8, BW x 10

                      Kneeling Cable Crunches
                      ... ... 200 x 12 x 2
