Cheers. I was especially happy with tripling, twice, the 140-kilos / 308lbs. I tend to do the majority of my training as low sets and reps. Bench is usually 132lbs x 8 rep, 220lbs x 6 reps and then singles for the rest of the workout. I did all of my intended 346.5lb benches (4 singles) - they were just hard enough. I then thought 'let's see if I can double 140kg/308lbs'. I've seen guys in our gym do 160-kilos for reps and then I've beaten them with a 10, 15 or 20-kilo more max. So to my mind I was built (fibre wise) to do well on low sets and reps. Doing two sets of 3 at the END was a nice gift.

I've just seen this mock up of an ebook cover. Our man is having fun and I really like the look of this but although I already have an ebook on the market this one is just for fun.

I do like the Gonzo/Gorilla aspect to it though.

            Thursday
I need to review the RT work cos I'm having good and bad sessions. It might be the order/sequence of lifts affecting it.

            2HP @ 44mm
            equ x 6 reps, plus 30-kilos x 3 reps, plus 60-kilos x 1 rep, plus 70-kilos x 1 rep, plus 72.5-kilos x 1 rep, plus 75-kilos x 1 rep, plus 78-kilos x 8 x 1 reps. Started shaky but got better with each successful attempt.

            T/L/R/T
            B/H: (Light pin) 40-kilos x 1 rep, 50-kilos x 1 rep, 70-kilos x 1 rep

            L/H: (light pin) 90-kilo x 0 reps, 80-kilos x 1 rep, 85-kilos x 1 rep, 90-kilos (again) x 0 reps, 88.75-kilos x 5 x 1 reps.

            R/H: (heavy pin) 90-kilos (big disc) x 1 rep, 95-kilos x 1 rep, 100-kilos x 1 rep (hard) 97.5-kilos x 0 reps, 95-kilos x 3 x 1 reps (all hard/just)

                  Hi Chris, cheers.

PJ? Not personally although I've been introduced. I know he was a founding member of Gymnation back in it's early days and my business partner Mike Betty knows of him through Mark 'Baggy' Bagwell (I think they were all at school together and Mike tells a good story about going out for a drink one night with PJ). PJ is/was a very good bench presser (one time European Champ and world record holder) as is Mark. Plus PJ was probably behind part of the reason why IFBB pro Lee Powell helped us out with some gym equipment from his Severnside gym.

That's without mentioning PJ's, shall we say, 'other activities' for which he has a well deserved local reputation. He's currently taking a very, very long 'holiday'.

Quick bit of the old soap box / thought of the day.
                    What drives you?

I was having such a jolly old chat with my lodger today that I ended up having a second cup of coffee before going to the gym later than I had intended. Anyway I gets over and having warmed up and stretched commenced with the preliminary sets on the two hand pinch.

As I get close to the working poundage the old mind is 'fixing' to remind me of the missed reps at the additional load (over and above the equipment weight) of 78.5 and 79-kilos I'd done during the last session (it'll be 78.5 again next time but good). I'd really struggled to get anything and failure is, as I said in previous log entries, a mind fuck. It's that because there I am fretting over not getting a weight that in and of itself is enough for a single one rep max would place me in the top 10 of ALL FUCKING TIME. But I'm gonna want to do somewhere between 4-8 singles when I next load that on. Yet it is bothering me enough to make me think 'shall I ease off today'.

I do a very shaky looking (I could feel it was off) single with just 78-kilos loaded (about 101kg in the hands) and as per my note book some were 'just' made and others had a nice tick against them to show they were solid. I was getting more ticks the more I did. So what the fuck was the issue with my head?

I was putting some work into a possible new e-book (not the one above, not yet anyway) and will expand a whole bunch on the mind set. I've coached others and told them that every time we get close to national, international and especially world record territory we are going to a place where others do not go, if ever. We ask of our bodies a physical question that others have NEVER EVER ASKED. I have literally trained until skin has torn and I have bled. I've padded said tear with tissue and carried on. One such lift, the V-Bar or 1" Vertical Bar lift both myself and a lifting buddy worked until we bled. I now hold the British record of 173-kilos (the world is about 15 kilos more). He won that years novice event.

That's the kinda crazy shit I think about when I am dragging or doing shaky reps. I trained too mutha-fucking long for the British this year (20+ weeks) and was dog tired a few days out - even more than usual. But in the closing weeks many sessions were motivated by my thought of 'don't let all that fucking time have gone to waste you lazy ass c**t!'.

                    I won.

So what drives you all on those sorry fucked up days. What makes you bleed, dry heave and then win, break records and so on. Chris J has done a massive 300kilos deadlift weigh 85? (Chris??). What drives you Chris?

The closer I get to being top in the world, never mind UK or Europe, the more I wanna know what drives others - so I can tap into it. They can do the same with me.

                      Saturday
Man was I fucked after this. Shaking a tad and bordering on puking. I have never puked but man did I feel like I was gonna. Grippers were good and bench was up again. I'm convinced what I am taking is crap. Note that I changed some shit around cos I trained at Gymnation. Anyways...

                      Crush grippers
I'll alternate these now up to the European.
                      B/H: CoC 1 x 6 reps @, HG200 x 3 reps @, CoC 2 x 1 rep @, HG300 x 1 rep @,
                      L/H: BBGM x 1 rep (deep set), CoC 3 x 1, x VN, VN, VN.
                      R/H:CoC 3 x 1 rep, BBE x 1 rep, HG350 x 1 rep, CoC 3.5 x 1 rep, BBSE x 1 rep, CoC 4 (Jim's 4.01 rated gripper) x 2mm, x 2mm

                      Leg Ext
70-kilos x 8 reps, stack (120 at GN) x 8 reps, 75-kilos one leg at a time x 8 reps (I cannot go heavier nor add weight so did one legged leg extensions)

                      Leg Curl
                      25-kilos x 8 reps, 40-kilos x 8 reps, 50-kilos x 8 reps

                      Leg Press
                      0-kilos x 12 reps, 120-kilos x 8 reps, 240-kilos x 8 reps, 560-kilos x 6 reps

                      Bench Press
first two sets decline until rack and bench were free: 60-kilos x 8 reps, 100-kilos x 6 reps (don't like decline - felt wierd). 140-kilos x 3 sets x 3 reps The first one was a little off due to the declines pre-ex'ing my front delts. I'm aiming for 4 x 3 next time.

                      Pullover machine
                      12p (60-kilos) x 8 reps, 18p (about 90-kilos) x 8 reps, stack (100kg) plus 20-kilos x 7 reps.

Some sets, reps and exercises were supersetted to save time.

                        Monday
Suffering from brain ache (see below) and a very sore feeling lower back (fortunately saved by brain ache ha ha). The back, chest, triceps, traps and I am sure other muscles are all suffering from DOMS from Saturday.

I'd intended doing RT work today. So got a light pin and the free spinning handle to take to Gymnation with me. Had a pee and set off. On arrival I realize the handle is still on the table at my gym. Numptie cods. So wrist roller and back extension work it is then.

W/roller (2.5-inch thick and lightly knurled)
                        25-kilos x 3 x 1 reps, 50-kilos x 3 x 1 reps, 70-kilos x 3 x 1 reps, 90-kilos/198lbs (tough) x 3 x 1 reps

Back Extension (s/setted with every 3 singles above)
8 plates on stack x 10 reps, 12p x 10 reps, 16p x 10 reps. I wanted to do more but my back was saying 'go ahead if you wanna crawl back home'. So stopped.

Bwt: 20st 1/2lb (280.5) on GN scales. Must be all the junk food etc I ate over the weekend.

It must be the time of year for DOMS cos I still got me some from the weekend and now you can add DOMS in the thumb pad of all places from the wrist roller work yesterday. Tomorrow, like the cook in Futurama, ''we're gonna kick it up a notch'' ha ha

                            Wednesday
Piss poor start. Both he Vulcan Gripper and 2 hand pinch work started badly and got worse. I changed to start crush grippers and they were just as bad. So, having stopped and drawn a line beneath it I went home. Another strong coffee, a prepped protein shake and as H knocked at the door I'd made a decision to go back and for want of a better phrase 'fuck myself up'. Here's how it went:
                            Part 1
                            Vulcan Gripper

                            B/H: L1 x 6 reps, L7 x 3 reps
                            L/H: L10 x 1 rep, L12 x 1, VN, VN, 0
                            R/H: L12 x 1 rep, L16 x VN, 1, VN

                            2HP @ 44mm
                            set up x 6 reps, plus 30-kilos x 3 reps, plus 60-kilos x 1 rep, plus 70-kilos x 3 x 1 reps (first two very rough), plus 72.5-kilos x 3 attempts (all crap).

                            Part 2
                            Vulcan Gripper

                            L/H: HG300 x 30 x 1 reps
                            R/H: CoC 3 x 30 x 1 reps

                            2HP @ 44mm
                            set up x 6 reps, plus 30-kilos x 5 reps, plus 60-kilos (82 in hand) x 16 singles (16 x 1), upped to +65-kilos (87) x 1 rep and 1 missed. Upped again to +70-kilos (92) x 1 and 1 missed rep. Dropped back down to 15 x 1 reps (31 in total at 82-kilos)

                            Much better.

re what drives you? - i think a lot of it is what you're born with, some people have 'it' an some people dont. Looking at things that drive me, more than anything, it's the little things now. For example, i have a 33 total on the vulcan, ive now rep'd a #4, as well as an RB330 on more than one accasion, hell, my left hand is up there with near enough anybodys right hand (closed RB330, BBE, 3.5 for multiple singles), yet i dont feel like im considered as one of the top crushers in the world, i dont think im considered anywhere close by many.

Dave morton posts a video of him repping an easy #4, he gets worshiped to this day, teemu posts a vid of him repping an easy 3.5, gets worshiped, i post a vid of me repping an easy #4, what do i get? some power hungry mod saying im not allowed to post anything about that #4 again - what did i do wrong? it's not the hardest of #4's no, more like a 3 an 3/4, but so what?? i said as much when i posted it. All of a sudden below average grippers are not allowed?? not been that way before, or since - ive had 9 different gripboard witnessed now, an it just feels like i get no credit. No disrespect to morton (or anybody else), but he was basically able to do a #3 from the off, i couldn't close a #1 when i first tried, yet he gets a shat load more credit >im not often bothered about what other people think, but for some reason this kind of things gets to me. It feels like theres one set of rules for others, then another for me e.g twig is saying the #3 i traded him is average when it's probably an easier #3 than the #4 in question is a #4, yet nobody has a problem with that.

On the bigger picture, it's that i dont wanna be somebody that just takes what there given, works the normal day job 9-5 until old an grey sets in, then retires..thats NOT me, never has been. I want to leave my mark so people will know i was here, it's like somebody carving a name in an old table. For me it's not enough to break a world record, i wanna break it, then break it again, then again, until it's higher than damn near anybody thought it could go. It's the challange of it all, im not a genetic freak, when i started out an 8 year old mark henry could have out lifted me im sure - the powerlifts for example, when i first lifted i weighed 80kg an my maximum bench was 35kg, deadlift was 62.5kg (didnt do squat till years later) >it's almost unthinkable for me to get any kind of powerlifting record, yet im going for the british unequippted junior total record in 125kg+ catagory..4 of me when i first started would fail to bench press my aim for this record, an it would take roughly 5 of me to lift my deadlift - thats what it's all about for me, the challange. It's like everest, some people just have to climb it, ever if they know it will kill them, they have to do it cuss they dont feel alive unless they try. Jesse marunde for example, he knew what he was doing could kill him, but he kept going, full steam ahead, until there was nothing left to give - thats something you're born with.

So it's not being given the respect you feel you are due... see 500 words reduced to a sentence ha ha.

But the 'I've repped a 4' and 'I have a total of 33' on the Vulcan are also wrong. You've deep set an easy 4 and done a few reps with it but not to anyone's satisfaction. I do understand what David did was the same but we've moved on from the stupid deep setting assisted shit for ourselves and to a set way stuff needs to be done. The 33 on the Vulcan is also wrong. Indeed I saw someone else's credit card set today which mimicked yours - the card needs to pass through the handles not rest on top (they set one side of the card inside and rested the other on top - you had it rest on both sides) . If you had done it well enough you'd have placed ahead of me and you have not. Only David Horne judges that - no one else. Even my work with the 4 in front of you got knocked back by pretty much everyone else. So what - fuck them.

Also the top boys do so on the platform. Not in their yards, gyms or bedrooms.

                                Still at least you replied.

When you get your arse down here we will be aiming to set the world on fire. Slowly but surely.

                                Thursday
I need someone to follow me around adding brain cells cos I must have - again - used all mine up. I went to Gymnation this evening thinking r/t shoulders and arms yet failed to notice I missed thick bar deadlifts.... kack.

I also did my 3 times a year rant and rave at some numptie who pulled into our yard so he could could do a u-turn and drive the wrong way up the one way street outside. I went from serene to foaming at the mouth loon in about 2 seconds for whatever reason.

                                Anyway...

                                TLRT
was ok. I do well enough on this lift but am unhappy with not getting a few more kilos on this. Using the light pin I went to 6 x 1 with 88.75-kilos loaded left handed and 100-kilos loaded times the same right handed.

                                Seated BB press
                                60-kilos x 8 reps, 80-kilos x 6 reps, 100-kilos x 4 x 1 reps

                                DB Curls
                                10-kilos @ x 8 reps, 17.5-kilos @ x 8 reps, 25-kilos @ x 8 reps, 27.5-kilos @ x 8 reps

                                Tricep Press Down
                                105-lbs/stack x 10 reps, stack plus 25-kilos x 10 reps, plus 40-kilos x 10 reps, plus 45-kilos x 8 reps.
