  • I've also had a back and forth situation regarding working out. After the disc injury I had I took off nearly two years to allow it time to heal. After that injury that is when I took a step back as it is easy to abuse your body when you are not injured.

I wound up getting to 220lbs out of shape. Since then I've gotten back to around 210lbs fairly lean I'd like to trim a bit more body fat. Your are right about the weight issue though. You can be as 'big' as you want (I.e. 230-250lbs) but its not really anything great if you have a lot of fat as well which is why I've tried to lean up.

I may try over the winter to bulk up a bit but I'm going to play it by ear. Right now I take multivitamin, fiber drinks and preworkout stims.

Those are the only supplements I find worthwhile. A friend of mine got me started on the fiber drinks. At first I thought it was ridiculous but I find it helps maintain healthy digestion for me. The preworkout stims help as well. Sometime I'll have an energy drink.

Those are the only worthwhile supplements I've found. I know a guy who uses the OTC supplements like beastdrol, etc. I usually see him use it when he gets 'stagnant' or at a plateau but he claims it is helpful for short periods of time for that.

After my 2 year lay off, from the disc injuries, I came back somewhat slow but before long I was back to my old ways again. I am more aware now though. I dont ignore all my strains anymore. Only to a certain degree.

Yea, carrying weight for the sake of being heavier is completely worthless.

The fiber helps me process food better and faster. More efficiently, to make room for the next meals. My digestion is bad so it helps. I still am limited to how much I can eat, its not a massive amount of food. I used to be able to force more, now I have more limitations.

Most supplements are shit. Ive tried many over the years. Beta alanine is great for muscle endurance and strength. It allowed me to perform even longer more brutal sessions and get more reps out of my sets. The only reason Im not taking that seperately , as well as a creatine drink, is because of my digestive issues at the moment. Normally I would take beta alanine with my pre workouts. Only on training days. The creatine I was running recently while on cycle and it gave me another 5lb boost and some decent strength gains. Both of those supplements are very good but creatine can give me some digestive issues so normally I dont take it seperately anymore.

Creatine, beta alanine, liquid aminos (too much acid in them for me now), fiber drink, and some type of pre workout stim are the only supplments that I find worth while. For food replacement shakes can be good. For me they cause too many digestive issues now. I used to do a 2000-2600 calorie shake with over 100 protein. Then eat an hour later. No way I can process that now. Mixing peanut butter, olive oil, oats, milk into a weightgainer can be useful to increase the calories and protein. Now I do all whole foods and soymilk. I dont use shakes anymore.

My main focus now is not about breaking strength records. Though I always try to break a record when I do many of my sets. Though by this point some of the smaller exercises its hard to remember what my previous bests were, like tricep extentions or some shit. So I do it more with chest these days. If I try to break records on back sessions I will likely rip tendons right now. So I just train back to get those deep cramping contractions now. I focus on the pain not hitting records, for growth now. Chest on machines is the only thing I can really try for records on, however It doesnt benefit me much anymore. It really doesnt matter that much at this point if Im getting 450 for 9 or for 12. Pushing that extra limit may just bring me more strains then gains at this point. Its ultimately more about getting the work in and tearing the muscle up so it can grow, and of course primarily about getting in that vent. Strength is no longer my main focus, since that would just lead to me taking myself out again, for a long time. Its gotten to the point where I need very heavy weight just to work the muscle normally. Since I can get so many reps with the heavier weights I have to pre exhaust the shit out of a muscle and even still go heavy for alot of reps to get any kind of stimulation. I can slow the reps down and I still need ALOT of weight to get into the lower rep ranges. And I start with 85 rep and 45 rep sets as you can see. So it becomes more challenging to work the stubborn muscle while sparing the beat up tendons and disks. I can rep the lighter weights all day without result. So everything has to be heavy. Based on the amount of reps I get its relatively light for me. Very light. 270 for example, for 45 reps means that the weight would be considered super light by normal standards. 360 for over 20 fresh would still be very light. For me to go heavy the machine has to be maxed at 540 or 500 for reps. Pre exhaustion can take very long to effect me because of my muscle endurance. So I could do many sets with lighter weights until they become heavier, or do all slow reps. Slowing them down definately helps but I still need alot of weight to get into a 12 rep range. Thats why I dont base my training on normal standards based on reps determining whats heavy and light.

Just taking beastdrol for 3 weeks I felt did permanent damage to my organs, tendons, etc. It mainly gave me strength gains, I get better size gains off the injectables. The problem with it aside from all the sides, was the inability to keep food down from the nausea and eventually inability to stay awake at all. I got super strength increases (from 14 to 23 reps on my 315 bench) however I only gained about 10 lbs. Which isnt bad considering most of that happened by the second week, however I gained 32 lbs my last 3 month cycle. It was slower but I was able to eat and have no side effects and take full advantage. I prefer a slow acting test like test enthanate for slower steady gains. 16 of those lbs were new weight, and 16 was regaining old bodyweight. I also hit my largest measurements for back/chest , arms, legs, etc. I wasnt eating that much really and I still gained ALOT. If I could run beastdrol without sides then Id probably get huge size gains too with the rate of gain I made in the first 2 weeks without alot of food. That would be impossible for me though.

Another session eliminating wrist use to let it heal. Wrist feels like its healing, even after the heavy hammer strength inclines yesterday. So I think I can keep those in the routine for now. I will possibly try doing slow reps next chest session. That would allow me to work with 450, rather then going up to 540. Which is better on the joints for now.

Waist is down to 37 inches now. I may start my lean bulk soon. 36 inches is my target size to start lean bulking. My waist is pretty thick from heavy weighted ab work, hyper extentions and deadlifts of the past. This time Ill try doing a high protein diet with very little carbs most likely. :

        (212 lbs after meal)

        Hammer Strength Lat Pullover

        90x30

        • If anyone wants to suggest a method, I may be able to post some chest videos here. Thats about the only thing worth posting right now.

Mainly hammer strength incline and possibly some smith incline presses when wrist heals more.

I have an android phone now which has video feature. The only issue I have is finding a way to prop the thing up, or something to rest it on so it gets the footage. If you have any creative ideas share them and I will post something soon most likely

I am looking to do it somewhat stealth as my sessions generate a crowd and freakshow without the filming portion. Some gyms like to stir shit about filming, which I am not in the mood to deal with. This gym is new and I already cursed out the fucking staff so I am not on good standing here.

          • I've propped my phone up against bottles that I bring or inside a cup that I use. In general it will be hard to do it concealed but if people seeing it is not an issue then using some kind of water bottle or such is your best bet.

Android software is good stuff now. It's better than anything in the apple iPhones. You can use your phone as a replacement for a digital camera with as advanced as they have gotten. The Samsung Galaxy that's out right now is like what iPhone will be in 5 years.

I don't understand the allure of iPhone outside of the apps. It is inferior in every other aspect.

            • Like that suggestion alot. My first few attempts may be sloppy but ill try to do something soon, maybe next chest session. I cant promise anything right away but Ill see what I can get. I generally have a speedstack or some shit to follow up my pre workout stims on chest day so I can use that. Ill try to tilt it back somewhat to capture the machine im on.

Any other suggestions or ideas Id like to hear them. I had a shit flip phone before with shitty picture quality and worthless video function, super grainy. So now I have the option to film whatever training Im doing at the moment. The chest portion is decent atleast. Everything else right now is nothing interesting.

              • Yeah makes sense if you have the phone. I mean if you paid for the phone you might as well use it right ? I've used phone to take pictures as video when on vacation an whatnot. It's great to have a phone, Internet, and a camera all together. Nice and portable.

I'm not into the tablets. The phone is suffice for me.

I've taken the Spike energy drinks before. They have a very good kick to them. I pick them up at vitamin shoppe.

The fiber drinks I just buy generic psyllium husk I don't even mix it I just spoon the powder directly.

Vitamins I just take a multivitamin for men's. I think it's Nature Made.

The fiber I may try and find a more portable way of bringing it with me. I hate not taking it and I usually don't when I travel. I try to take (5) table spoons everyday.

-3 tablespoons when I wake up
-2 tablespoons before I go to bed

Agreed. I didnt pay for the phone but it definately has some uses. Ive been wanting to make videos for my own personal records for years now. So now I can. Ill post them here in the journal as well. Chest is really the only thing I am going heavy on at the moment, but that will change over time.

Here is the angle that I will be filming the hammer inclines at. Possibly on monday Ill post up some of my sets.. Just a test video done after legs training. Maybe instead of doing slow reps ill throw in some heavy ballistics for the vid. Depending on the level of hand sprain. Laying the phone against the plate stand was sufficient enough

Ive never taken vitamins. I take a supp called bioslife for fiber and cholesterol.

                  • Looks like it is working fine. The camera has settings. If your phone has two camera (one in front and one in the back) the rear camera will have a higher resolution. It's handy as well bc you can upload directly to YouTube.

Nice. So I dont have to email the videos to myself then upload them to youtube? How to I upload direct? The video came out higher quality before it was uploaded. I used the front camera so I could see that I had the right angle. otherwise its too risky that it will miss the set. Good to know about resolution though. I can try using rear camera once I get used to the angles more.

                      • I will try to incorporate some requests from the respectable posters in this journal. Thats the only reason I keep a copy on this site. Though some angles will be tricky for me to get at first, I will see what I can do if anyone has any requests, based on what Im doing in my training currently. Which is very limited. I have not trained arms directly in a while, but when I do I can possibly film some triceps pressdowns with 200 lbs for 30-40 reps, or load on 245-260 for reps as well. I will have to wait until my wrist is good enough for that. Maybe in a few months time, depending how much recover I allow it. For back now im stuck with pullovers only to spare the wrist. So right now Im only training light legs (just brought presses back but only up to 600lbs for 60 reps or so) and for chest its incline hammer strength machine shown above, which i will try for 450-500 lbs atleast on monday for reps.

Maybe 450 for 10 and 500 for 5+. Possibly 540 which is the 6 plate max (without chaining other plates), but have to see how wrist feels. 450-500 is very likely for monday I think. Smith machine incline presses I have to wait on my wrist for those. The bending back of the wrist will delay the healing for a much longer time. I want to be able to train arms and back properly and a fucked wrist doesnt allow that right now.

So there is very little variety right now that I can film. If there are no requests I will try to film whatever I think is worthwhile and post more if I get good feedback. One good poster is more then sufficient for me to post a video. Within the limited exercises you see me doing here at the moment. Soon I will expand on that.

                        • The front camera is easier to use bc you can see the screen but the resolution is not as good.

As far as the YouTube, there should be an app that allows you to upload them directly. I'm not sure which phone you have but most phone with the YouTube function should have an upload feature directly. You'll have to play with it. The quality may have to do with YouTube itself.

YouTube may be compressing the file automatically. To be honest I am not an expert on youtube as I have only uploaded one or two videos.

Ill have to fuck with it and see. Regardless its easy to email the vids to myself and upload them. So the only thing preventing me from making videos now is lack of variety in my training. Some angles may be difficult at first too but Im sure I can figure it out.

About to get my spine cracked and neck twisted so I should be good to film some incline hammer presses on monday

                            • I will be filming chest in about an hour and a half. So I will try to get in some decent sets with 180 to failure all the way up to 500, or maybe even 540 if feeling decent enough. Will be my first self filming session. The angle should be fine, so I think I can get some decent footage aslong as joints and wrist are decent today

                              • Got some decent footage today. My 500 set was not too good at 5 reps, and failed 540 today but 450 for 10 and a half on hammer strength inclines and some high rep sets before that with the weights pyramiding up. I should have them up within the hour. Just have to upload now and post links
