  • How Often Do You Take Off Weeks From Training?

Curious how often, if ever, you recommend taking off a week from the gym?

I wouldn't say I never rest, but hardly ever. Even if I do, it's never for a whole week, 4 or 5 days max. I know there is a lot of talk about taking a few days off every few weeks or so, and I've tried it, but I've always found my appetite plummets, and I feel weaker in the gym when I go back. In addition, there have been numerous times when I've woken up and thought "I really don't want to do this", then go to the gym and hit a personal best.

          Blue,
If the intent of this thread is for you to try and determine how often you should take a break from the gym then it is useless.
Everyone has different rates of recovery requirements based on their genetics, age, training, diets, ect.
What works for one person may not work for another.

Here is a word of advise from someone that has been training for over 35 years.
This is all trial and error as to determining what works for someone as to getting maximum results from training and diet.

I have done Arnold style training, Heavy Duty style training, keto diets, high carb diets, high intensity cardio, long slow cardio and variations of those.
It took years of trial and error until I learned what works for me.

I usually just take 3 days off as need be, though SPARINGLY. Usually it ends up every 4 to 6 months.

I take off when I need it. Maybe a day, a week, maybe a month. Depends on life, injuries, how my body's feeling and whether or not I need to go do "something" else to kind of make training exciting again. Once you've been pushing weights for 10-15yrs like alot of us have, breaks are as good physically as they are mentaly.

Never because I would die. Most lately was 4 days after MAJOR surgery. Yes I was on crutches and moving slow but I worked out and it felt great.

Since 2000 I never took time off just to rest and recover. In 2010 i took of a few days from upper body training because of some partial tears but still did legs and cardio.

Two weeks ago Dusty had me take 2 weeks off. 1 weeks completely out of the then 2nd i could stay out or just go in and "tinker" I chose to tinker since I don't feel as stiff if I move around some and get some blood in. So this was my first ever just rest time out of the gym.
