Updated my blog with my 13 to 10 weeks out diets: www.jrod123.blogspot.com
My 10 weeks out update:
I've decided to go back up in calories this week. Based on my current conditioning, I don't think I need another 10 weeks to be in contest shape. At first I thought this was a problem, but this might actually be a good thing.
Last week, 11 weeks out, I started to notice I was having a much harder time getting through my workouts. I think right about under 3,000 calories is where this happens for me. So, since I'm in great shape for being this far out, I've added about 3oo calories back into my diet. This may not seem like much, but at this point its very noticeable for me. So far, my workouts have been great after this slight increase. Aside from adding some calories back in, I'm also going to take a break from cardio this week.
I'll be more aggressive with dropping calories later (maybe closer to 7 weeks out), but for now, I have the luxury of getting to "coast" a bit and enjoy my workouts. As usual, I'll judge when and how many calories to drop based on how I'm looking in the mirror.Jeff Rodriguez

From viewing your pictures, that certainly sounds like a good plan! You will most likely end up a little thicker in the end as a result. I admire your patience and attention to detail.WNBF PRO, TRAINER & GYM OWNER - www.BeyondLimitsTraining.net

jeff, the improvements youve made since last year are impressive to say the least. good luck this even though it appears you dont need it. i know you havent been competing for too long but have you found you progressively stay leaner each year or have always carried very little fat? do you have to watch what you eat extremely close in the offseason to maintain your condition?

Either way, I feel damn good these days and its weird how simple a change this was, but its really motivating. I think bodybuilding is very much a mental activity (its not easy to be mentally tough all the time and dig deep when its uncomfortable), so little small changes/breaks like this are great for motivation and feeling positive about the process.Jeff Rodriguez

I've noticed I stay at least as lean each year. I've always been pretty lean (even as a teenager, before training/eating well), but I think this has to do with 2 things: genetics and how I eat/learned about eating for bodybuilding.
First of all, I probably naturally stay fairly lean--its just how my body works. Second, when I first got into training/eating for bodybuilding, I started out really well and pretty strict. I was young (17) and so eager to learn, improve (and had no one to guide me, it was just me and my buddy) that I started out eating really clean and pretty strict. I got used to eating that way simply cause I thought that was how it was supposed to be done and how most people did it (I didnt know other bodybuilders). I relaxed about how clean I ate after a while (and don't get me wrong, I don't eat perfectly and SUPER clean in the offseaon), but my standard of eating in the offseason is probably a lot higher (in terms of being good for bodybuilding and healthy/clean) than most people. Furthermore, the foods I LIKE/ENJOY eating tend to be conducive to bodybuilding anyway (I like eating meat, chicken, fish and rice) and I LIKE eating the way I eat. Finally, this might also have something to do with how I was brought up (we ate a lot of fish/meat/chicken and rice); junk for dessert or whatever, but that was for dinner.Jeff Rodriguez

KMH23,
Remember when you asked me if I eat plain rice cakes or mix the flavored ones with my eggs?
Well, I had never done this before, but the other day I was eating my eggs and caramel flavored rice cakes and remembered your question. So I decided to try mixing them together and DAMN, weird as it sounds, caramel rice cakes with eggs (seasoned with salt and spray butter) tastes really good. Tastes like french toast to me. Maybe its cause I'm dieting, but I've been eating them everyday now like that!
Thanks!Jeff Rodriguez

ha, that does sound good. gonna be started to diet for my first show soon so im sure i will give a try over the next months. im glad to hear you eat the flavored ones cause previously i would have thought you and athletes on your level are supehuman eating only foods that are dry, bland, and cardboard like. i like to use walden farms sugar fre syrup on potatoe and eggwhite or kashi waffles and eggwhite. pretty damn close to the real thing.
