I have decided to switch my training program re: exercises, rep range..etc every 2 months, however, i didnt plan on taking the week off before my new program. Do you thing taking the week off is optimal? What do u feel about perhaps instead of taking the week off, using that in between week to test out the new exercises or new program at say a 60% intensity...kind of allowing your body a transition into the new training cycle..etc?
Also, where are you at right now in terms of "offseason?" Keep us posted with your updates you have more fans than u think! thanx bro
The 60% intensity thing you mentioned might work for you; give it a try. I can tell you this, you'll know if it isn't working out too well (cause you need rest) as you'll feel it. You've got to listen to your body and rest when necessary. I am cautious about it and take either a short break after 5 weeks, or a longer break after 8-10 weeks.
As for updates, off season is going well; I'm very happy with it. I trained chest and triceps today and here's what happened:
CHEST
Flat Bench: 4, 4 @ 315
Incline BB: 5 @ 245; 4 @ 255
1/4 incline DB: 6, 6, @ 120
TRICEPS
Close Grip Decline: 6 @ 275; 5 @ 285
Hammer Strength Dips: 6 @ 4plates/side ; 6 @ 4plates+15/sideJeff Rodriguez

These are all the supplements I take: Whey, dextrose, creatine, glutamine, BCAA, glucosamine/joint supplement, vitamins (beta carotene, b-complex, c, e, multi, zinc/magnesium/calcium), and coffee (or sometimes when i forget to make it a different/whatever is on sale caffeine based energy supplement).
This picture was taken in July of 2001; I was 17 years old; taken right before I started training. I think I weighed about 150 lbs. at the time.
I must say you have a Great physique. I noticed that you take Glutamine. I keep reading some threads that say it is a waste of money and others that say it is a must.
Also do you take your glutamine on an empty stomach or with food?
Thanks

Instead of telling why I take it (since, from your commment above about some say its a must, some say its a waste, I take it that you've heard both sides) let me give you a different argument for taking glutamine.
Come pre-contest time, I think glutamine is even more important as it can hlep replenish glycogen stores, helps immune system; so let us ignore that time and just consider off-season.
I take about 5g pre-workout, 5g post workout off-season. To make this simple, lets severely exagerate and say I train 5 days a week for 50 weeks in 1 year (I train less than this). This comes out to 50weeks * 5days/week = 250 days of training in a year. since I use 10g glutamine per training day, this gives 250*10 = 2,500g glutamine per year. I get glutamine for about $40 for 1,200g. So I spend about $80 on glutamine in a year. This might not be worthit to you, but I am willing to invest (and take the risk of spending) $80 a year (or ~$6.67 per month) on glutamine.
Thanks for the compliment.Jeff Rodriguez

As I mentioned, today was leg day! All in all it was a great day. I LOVE LEG DAY. It was one of those days where everything felt great (strong, good feel on sets, etc.), but fuck I felt dizzy and like passing out after a couple of my sets. Getting the mid and post workout shakes down was kind of rough today as I felt like vomiting a bit. Just one of those days. Good, but rough. Here's how it went.
Squats: 6 @ 345; 4 @ 355
Front Squats: 5 @ 275
Bulgarian Split Squats: 5 @ 235
Leg Press (Icarian): 4,4 @ 7x45 + 100lb plate + 25 per side
Stiff-legged deadlifts: 8 @ 405; 6 @ 415
Seated Leg Curls: 6, 5.5 @ 190 (stack)
Now its just a matter of getting the rest of my meals down on time and I'll call this a damn good day.Jeff Rodriguez
