      • Jeff,

You are definitely looking ready. I wish you the best of luck at this year's Team Universe competition.

If you win your class and/or the overal do you have plans on being part of the World Amatuer Championships?

I HAVE mixed them, but usually do not. It will not make a difference if you do either way, of course. I usually eat separately:

Egg whites with mustard and garlic salt; followed by a bowl of broccoli with a few sprays of I can't believe its not butter and garlic salt. (that's if i am home and have the luxury of a microwave and all the seasonings).

If I am out, I have egg whites (cold, without a microwave), and a weighed out bag of sugar snap peas.

I don't think there is one thing in particular. There were some things I probably did a bit better this year (explained below), but it was probably just another year of consistent eating and training. In the end, I think, nothing beats consistency over a long period of time.

Things I did a bit differently or better:
            • I ate a bit more food/calories this year (but not so much that I would get fat).
            • I had a bit more food around the workout (pre/mid/post workout shakes)
            • I made it a point to eat more healthy fats this year (from olive oil and fish)
            • I made it a point to listen to my body more and err on the side of resting too much than too little (I probably had more rest days this year than I have in years past).
            • When an exercise hurt or was irritating, I did not train through it, but worked around/did something else; I tried to be very good about this througout the year.
            • I probably had just a little bit more variety in my training this year (at first not on purpose, but later realized its value. I trained at about 5 different gyms throughout the year cause of work and was forced to use different things). Looking back, this was probably a good thing.

I was born there and my grandfather (mom's side) was part filipino; so a little bit. The rest of my mom is Spanish and my dad is 100% Spanish, so I am mostly Spanish (Spain).

Hey Matt. I remember you from the '06 TU.

                Thanks!

Right now I haven't decided. I am really excited about the TU, and not so much about the Wolds. If I do get a spot on the team and decide to go, I would be going simply for the experience because, realistically, I wouldn't be competitive at that show. So right now, I'm just focused on the TU.

It would be really nice to have to make that decision though .

Any plans on making your way back to the TU? I know you started a thread here and mentioned competing in '09; are you planning on doing it then?

                • Forgot to say that your form/exercise execution is impeccable in the new vid. Comparing your form to LaCour's vids there is a world of difference (which is a good thing).

                    • Hey jrod for a natty you look sick , not hating (meant as a compliment) but you look like on juice especially in that offseason pic on page 3 or 4 amazing physique and a great motivation.

                      I have 2 questions:

                      1. Obviously you have an insane metabolism eating so many carbs and proteins, you don not take many fats as I see, my question is aren't you bloated or gassy at the end of the day? I stay on low carb diet and have carb loading once a week with hihgh carb moderate protein low fat day and I can not leave the house.

                      2. I use modified max-ot like you, since I tried it a year ago I cannot go into other program, I try but I go back after a few weeks as I really feel it ( I do it more intensly 30sec -1 min rests 2-6 reps usually) shouldn't the body be forced to change for at least a week like 15-20 reps weeks do you do stuff like that?

                      Thanks and good luck

Nope, not gassy or bloated. I digest what I eat just fine. Maybe in your case its because of the sudden shock; I eat about the same each day, so its not a shock/nothing new.

No, I don't do stuff like that. Instead, I take a week OFF from training. But, hey, if you like doing it like that and you know it works for you, keep doing it.

                        Thanks and good luck

I haven't really thought TOO much about this. I'm sure I'll come up with some great ideas for what to eat when that time comes. For now, some random thoughts I've had are it would be nice to eat:

*A huge steak or salmon with some rice.
*SUSHI BUFFETT!!!! (I'll wait till I get home for this one; there's a place I like around here that's all you can eat sushi for about $16).

Also, I'd like to barbecue up on the roof of my apartment. Tenants aren't supposed to have access to the roof, but about 1/2 through this prep, I discovered the pin to open the door up there and told myself I would barbecue up there when I was done. (Hahaha, I already bought the lawn chairs and barbecue!).

Another TREAT, as simple as this may sound, is not having to be so perfectly structured, and measure everything down to the gram. This is going to be really nice.

Remind me about this question a week after the show and I'll tell you what I did .

Adding to what Jrod said, the reason for this is also because your body downregulates the digestive enzymes for carbohydrates when you go low carb, since it doesn't need them. Once you carbload, all that food hits the small intestine and without all those enzymes present, bam - wicked gas!
