                • Quick update from Atlantic City. Prejudging is over, and although I was nervous and made a few presentation mistakes I'm really happy with how it went. From the callouts it looks like I'll be anywhere between eighth and twelfth ( hopefully closer to eighth!). Looking at these guys backstage was pretty intimidating, but then when I saw stage photos I felt like I belonged up there. I have to admit that many times I would have liked to yell, "I'm lifetime drug-free!", but you guys who read this thread already know how proud I am of this, and I felt a kind of honor representing the naturals on a pro stage ;-)

Regardless of what happens, great job on making it there and representing the naturals on an IFBB stage! You should be proud of yourself!

Great work, man. I know you've said you probably won't do another pro show, but I think you should. Sizewise you definitely belong on that stage with the other guys (which in itself is an amazing accomplishment for a natural), and I believe you could come in even sharper (leaner and dryer). Really nailing your conditioning could probably push your placement up several slots.

PS. I remember chatting with you on the Musclemania board back in 2001 or so when I was like 14 and just starting out bodybuilding. You had just placed second at the amateur lightheavies, and you said the Musclemania was offering you a pro card, but I guess you never took it. Now, 8 years later you're standing on an IFBB pro stage and looking like you belong there. Needless to say, it's been very inspirational to follow your journey to this point.

                            • Congrats! You placed higher than a number of IFBB pros who weren't natural on an IFBB stage. Definately inspiring. Congrats again!

                              • Thanks for the support. I posted a photo album at:

                                http://protimmartin.com/Photos/Pages/IFBB_AC_Pro.html

As it turns out I ended up 11th out of 22 guys in the 202 division. I was hoping for 8th or 9th, but realize that a few placements is inconsequential if you're not challenging for the win. Regardless, I accomplished what I set out to do and that was to be competitive on a pro stage. In retrospect there were a number of mistakes I made, most notably using Dream Tan. While I have had success with this in the past under favorable lighting, on this stage the lighting was so good it created a muddy effect and blurred some detail. Also, making the 202 weight class was a challenge to say the least, and I'm not sure loosing all that water weight on Thursday didn't have a bad effect on me even though I was on stage at about 209 pounds.

The general feeling I had in Atlantic City was the same I had last year at the Master's Nationals in that being engulfed in the "drug culture" of our sport for a few days effects me negatively. It's a hard pill to swallow to realize that no matter how hard or how long I train I will never have that freaky, vascular look that is rewarded in our sport.

I'm heading up to Toronto tonight to shoot pictures for MuscleTech, and then I'm just looking forward to relax and live a normal life for a while. Here's a pic from the weigh-ins with Jose Raymond and James "Flex" Lewis (by the way I think Jose should have won!).
