Tim,
Several weeks ago I was reading through your thread and I stumbled on an older post of yours that changed the course of my prep this year. It was something really simple, but it gave me a push into a direction that I think really helped me this year (I learned from a mistake I WOULD have made at TU had I not gotten this "push" from reading your post). I'll tell you more about it when I see you on Friday, but here's the post.

As for the timing of shows - everyone has their own opinion. I never saw the need to get fat for 2 years between contests, and having followed many competitors I don't think it really works. I've always found that I train harder, eat better, and maintain my supplement regimen much better when I have a contest in my crosshairs. In fact, probably the best gains I ever made were between a late November contest and a spring contest the following year.
Bodybuilding is a weird sport in that we only get to compete about once per year. I'm a big advocate of competing every year (unless injury occurs) and stringing together several shows relatively close together. There is no substitute for experience, both with stage presence and with peaking. Having said this, you almost assuredly will have to check your ego at the door, as you can't really be at your peak for your early shows. Last year my goal contest was the TU, but I did two shows in July to gauge my progress and got pretty much spanked in both because I wasn't in great condition.Jeff Rodriguez

Tim, big fan! Question: During my show preparation my upper body tends to be shredded a lot faster than my legs and wondering if you have any advice or you have experience with this sort of thing. I tried upping the cardio but i probably scrafice some muscle. Your thoughts, Thanks!INBF Rookie Pro Card Winner: 2011 EAST COAST NATURAL BODYBUILDING

Thanks, I already have my goal in my head that my legs WILL be on point and striated glutes! At least that’s the goal. I’m 9 weeks out and I’m already lean, didn’t go crazy on bad food since my last show 6/25. I’m going to carb cycle with very low carbs (increase fats with olive oil) to moderate carbs for a couple of wks and re-evaluate myself. Thanks again.INBF Rookie Pro Card Winner: 2011 EAST COAST NATURAL BODYBUILDING

Quick update if anyone reads this forum anymore lol. These pics are from 4 and 5 weeks out of the USBF show in Jersey, and two weeks later the DFAC show also in Jersey. My stage weight will probably be a few pounds less that I originally thought, I guess due to getting older (44) and only training four days per week. I plan on upping cardio for the next three weeks, and then probably eat up to the show the final week.Attached Files
