  • Layne, do you think that 8lbs in 12 weeks is partly down to that new bolus protein dosing your doing?

i certainly think spacing my meals out more has kept me leaner. I've also been runing dialene-4 & sesamin while bulking and that worked very well at keeping fat off. I think a lot of fat burners are actually more useful for preventing fat gain while in a caloric surplus rather than accelerating fat loss in a caloric deficit

Interesting. I've never taken a fat burner during my bulking phase, but I might give this a go, as well.

          • layne i am following your work out split as well as your 4-6 week bulk 2-3 week cut. i log my workout on my heavy days and try to beat it by going heavier or doing an additional rep each week. my question is are you usually able to beat your previous rep/weight scheme while on the 2-3 week cut? or does your strength plateu until you hit your 4-6 week bulk.

            • i usually can still gain strength. I only lose strength when i get really really lean. 2-3 weeks of dieting should not cause you to lose energy/strength. If you are, it is probably more of a mental block than anything else.

                  • Hey Layne. Been your fan for about 1.5 years now. Your bulking and the arm, chest, and back training articles really helped me pack on the newbie gains last february and the contest prep article helped me cut down and fill out for the beach a month ago; Thanks . The webcast is informative and very fun to watch; will def. be getting the dvd when it comes out. Had a question about the PPWO meal. I adopted your BCAA, 25g dextrose, and creatine PWO strategy and i follow that up with 100+ oat carbs with whey about 20 min later. Is 20 min too little time to wait? whats the ideal time to wait between those 2 meals?

I dunno what made me think of EA sports when i thought of this:

                    • that's a creative title, I kind of like it

what is your source for the 100g of carbs?

                      • i finally thought of a question:

when on ketogenic diet like dave's, is it ok to take creatine monohydrate with no sugar? or will this diminish the effectiveness of the creatine?

also u are right about usnic acid, i read some horrible things about it and about its toxicity on liver...if u would like the link i will get it for u, it was from the t-nation website.

                        • creatine will still work and IMO will be very important as it will help pull fluid into the muscle cell which will likely have reduced fluid content due to the reduction in glycogen from the ketogenic diet

its a blended dry rolled oatmeal shake with whey. then an hour to 1.5 hours after that i eat a whole meal but with less carbs.

                            • its a creative title but i think it suits a name for a video game rather than a dvd. itll be an rpg in which you battle out a series of monsters (ie marcus ruhl and ronnie ) to be reunited with precious glutaform.

Myself being a true ectomorph (although layne is about 50lb bigger than me) I have found that not just constantly eating, but rather letting my body get into that post digestive stage. I have found that this has easily allowed me to get a caloric surplus, while still eating meals of small enough portions that I don't bust a gut. I still get 6 per day with the last being at around 10pm. This has been extremely sucessful in adding new muscle where I was having a very difficult time doing otherwise.
And yes I did learn this principle from Layne's teachings.
