    i think it will get you a great base in terms of strength but pretty much the only variable that you can modulate is strength/overload and you simply can't get stronger forever. Most people don't realize volume and frequency are forms of overload, you can't always get stronger but you can always do an extra set or increase your frequency. I just feel like a program should take advantage of all the variables to modulate overload & muscle gain

          • Thanks Layne what are your carbs sources generally? The same as everone else rice, spuds and oats?

            • they are quite varied, potatos, rice, lowfat popcorn, lowfat baked lays, whole wheat pasta, oat meal, oat bran, fruits, veggies, rice cakes, occasionally low fat ice cream, etc.

              • Is it true that Arginine significantly raises growth hormone levels?

                I ask this specifically because I thought you might have done some first hand lab trials with it...or know of some good arguments for/against.

                • Layne;

                  What are your thoughts on Glucose Disposal Agents (Vanadyl, Chromium..etc). I want to see if they May help bring more nutrients into the muscles.
                  Thx

                  • It's somewhat of a shame that this thread is "tucked away" in the Nattie section, as Layne's knowledge is relevant to pretty much all bodybuilders. Thanks for keeping this post going Layne; I really enjoy reading your answers.

                      i know i've seen research showing it raises it... but i'm skeptical as to whether it raises it high enough to make a difference; I kind of doubt it

                        well chromium is garbage; vanadyl may increase basal glucose uptake but i'm not sure you'd want that. Lipoic acid is probably the best as it increases insulin stimulated glucose uptake into the muscle cell. Check out my article here: http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/layne25.htm

                            Layne have you considered the following. This has been a hot topic lately on the MD board here. Might change your views on these because others said the same based on resarch but turns out board member Tripsta was able to get results (proved with blood meter readings) using the most BIOAVAILABLE versions i.e. Chromium polynicotinate and Vanadyl sulfate.

                            ALA on the other hand Deserusan posted some research showing normal ALA may be ineffective as S-ALA can mess with protein systhsis. And R-ALA itself isn't too bioavailable/stable. K-RALA is the best version it seems.
