The only reason I used TP's site is they have all the amino and nutritional break downs for you.
I'm sure that other suppliers carry it.
Seems as if manufactures are looking into an alternative for dairy proteins because of the rising costs (I'm sure there are other factors as well).
    Thanks

    • Ive been waiting for people to talk about this new protein in more detail. Ive never heard of it before until somebody posted TP just started offering it.

The cheapest whey blend powders I can find are NSI's brand at 5lbs / lb b4 shipping. My old fav Optimum's now the 10 lb bag is like $67 cheapeast I can find online! Or 6.7 / lb

The Gemma Protein is being sold at least at TP for $4.89. Its way cheaper than what Whey is going for these days. I dunno why the Whey prices skyrocketed. I probably will always have some whey pwo 40 G but other times when I may use whey Pre-workout (I love the fact it has liek 2-3G of Arginine per scoop!) , meal replacement/booster so this might help 1) converse the more expensive whey 2) TP at least gives me tons of flavor choices that most brands don't e.g Choc vs Vanilla gets boring.

My questions: is that would this protein be similar to say Soy (its from like a plant too this time a pea i think)? Are there phytoestrogens in it too?

Layne your opinions (if any at all) on this new protein source for bodybuilders would be insightful. Nobody has a really good review article on it online I could find like Soy, Whey, Casein, and EGG proteins.

I used to buy from ATW, 50 lbs for 180$ but they have raised their prices A LOT! Now i buy from supplement market, their bulk protein. Used to be 95$ for 25 lbs but now its $110 which is still damn good

it's a suitible replacement for casein; however, it's around 50% lower in leucine than whey I think.

the reason the prices went up is because a plan in new zealand that made about 40% of the world's whey closed down.

Yeah, it's weird, we have a lot of milk produced locally but our prices (for all milk products) are dictated by the world price still, so the cost has gone up for us too.

I was told by someone that if you immediately start carb cycling, your body will adapt to carb cycling in a few weeks...and when you plateau, you have no other alternatives. However, I was under the impression that carb cycling keeps you from plateauing and even prevents your metabolism from slowing due to the high calorie/carb days.
Interesting question. So Layne do you introduce the refeed days from the beginning or when you're already well into the diet?

So it has merit, but Whey is still better.
Hope to see those articles soon brother...real soon.

There seems to be some reticence to publish anything natural at MD if this and that thread trying to get Eric into the mag are anything to go by. I don't really get it...

I'm sure your articles leave a lot of what is published for dead Layne.

Well yanno maybe another campagin to the editors is in order! There is already one to get a natrual bodybuilder his/her own colum.. The people on this board want Eric.

I get the magazine and love it. I do find it cutting/edge and informative but they do sometimes seem MORE geared at the juice heads and naturals get the back seat. Or rather may play favorites maybe? I dunno...

At any rate lets see what can be done

You're right; the natural part of my statement was probably irrelevant.

However, you are a fairly prominent natural athlete, so perhaps there could still be some bias from this association there. I don't know; I'm clutching at straws here man. Why else would they refuse quality material?

Assni's Supplement articles are usually very good and informative. This new protein source esp with milk priced so high you'd think they would have published information about it by now. Unless I missed it. Ive only subscribed since this year.

I see that its slower absorption according to Layne so I guess I could take it at bedtime as a casein subsitute. Btw, CASEIN is even MORE expensive than WHEY !! From the sites Ive tried even b4 the price surge cheapest price for a casein was like $8-10 / lb around there. And people sell it such small amounts like 2 lbs even harder to get it in bulk that *I* know of.

The lack of leucine might be able to be made up by adding extra leucine or bcaa powder?
