I'm buying 20 or 30 DVDs and giving them as Xmas presents this year. My co-workers know nothing about natural bodybuilding but now they will

          Yeah, wondering the same thing!

              • What is the reasoning you have that desiccated liver tabs are useless? Just curious, I have used them for a long time as a cheap source of aminos.

you can just eat more protein to get aminos. you can just take vitamins to get the vitamins... much cheaper

Sorry, I just came back to say I read a couple more pages in and you already answered this. I thought the issue was over but it was brought back up.

                    Thanks anyway.

                    • Hey Layne,

In your webcast, you say that you drop from 3500 calories right down to 2500 when you are doing your 4 week bulk/2 week cut.

However, when you are dieting for a longer time getting ready for a contest, do you still drop from 3500 right down to 2500 or do you do it gradually?

                      • Off-Season Cardio Methods

                        Layne-

For my off-season cardio I just started to do speed walking for 30 minutes 3x a week since its been nice in Wisconsin these past couple weeks. I enjoy outdoor walking much much more then boreing treadmills! The problem is that my neighborhood is flat as can be and no matter how fast I walk I cant get my HR above 130 which for me is only 60% of my HRR. On the treadmill I can get to the ideal 140-145 range by adding a 5% incline.

Now I could compensate by jogging but wont this impaire my leg strength Or lead to sore joints? More yet since I am doing a pure strength-training based program at the time being. 3 heavy days of training and 3 days of cardio done on seperate days of the week.

I just dont want to over do the legs with running on my off days. Yet I dont want to abandon cardio cause I know well enough now that I need some cardio even in off-season periods.

Its also much easier and more time saving for me to just head out the door and walk around the neighborhood then drive to the gym.

I dunno about speed walking but i know Layne works out his legs 2 or 3 times a week AND 2 days a week HIIT cardio

                              • If the math is correct 140-145bpm for my age and resting heart rate kicks out at 70% of my Heart Rate Reserve using the Karvonen Method. Its a little above the fat burning zone yet not at any extreme glycolytic zone either. Basicly I feel it gives me the best of both worlds for the cardio benefits and metabolic boosting benefits to up the appetite without eating up muscle and thwarting strength gains.

The issue of Layne doing legs 3 times a week and 2 HIIT sessions is commendable but I am not Layne. I tried HIIT for about a month last fall and it did not work so well. My legs were always a little sore and my leg strength stagnated more then improved. I was doing just two 25 minute sessions on a high school track with just 2 leg days a week back then. Thus I am very hesitant to make a return to anything more then speed walking as far as impact goes.

Hope this helps clear up my concern.
