  • Also another quick question sorry if i ask to much just lots of questions from reading this thread and the bb.com/video series. Your split a lot like mine upperheavy/lower heavy/upper hyper/lower hyper just wondering if i wanted to try your split which just adds extra day spliting the upper body workout. This increase my frequency im still unsure how much volume my body will grow with what would be a good starting point? and how long do i wait to add more if i can handle it?
Note; better to start this when im doing a mass phase or will the calorie deficient from dieting down not affect it.

    • Layne i know your caught up in schooling but i would like to know about amino acids
hany rambod says that he tells is clients not to take shakes but amino acids in free form as thay are digested better and then just eat real food!
what do you think, would it be benefical to add aminos to your diet and take free form aminos before meals?
      if so how much?

      • hey layne. what do you think of fst-7? I looked into the premise--that pumping up stretches the fascia--and i can find next to zero support in the literature for hany's rationale.

the work suggesting fascia actually vary in thickness (which hany claims makes people better or worse bodybuilders) is limited to studies on compartment syndrome, and there is only ONE study showing that fasciotomy results in increased myofibrill area.

Nothing suggests fascia restrict hypertrophy, and nothing suggests normal muscle fascia vary in thickness and that that has anything to do with muscle development.

        • hey layne again
haha i think i just have to many questions. Ive been reading up actually on your webcasts and articles so they produce more questions.
          1. Im thinking of starting a stretching routine 8-10min every morning (full body) to produce great flexibility which i think could help with poses, but could it also improve my recovery?
          2. I took nolva (Serm) to help reduce a case of natural gyno i got from puberty only about weeks cycle at 25mg. ive also done an EC stack for cutting cycle. ive been researching natural bodybuilding shows regulations just realised that Ephredine is on the banned substance list. How long should i wait before i plan for a show? I still have small case of gyno in my left pec how will this affect my career? my doctor only wants to do surgery because he doesnt believe in using letro or nolva im unsure scarring and all. Opinions

          • So Layne, I've read most of your posts and I know for calves you really hit them with a lot of volume (like pretty much everything else). Could you go into a little more detail about what specifically you do on each of the 2 days you hit them? My calves are so stubborn they seem to stay the same or even shrink regardless of what I do!

            Thanks

The DC method works very well. You explode up and hold the peak for a second and then slowly lower. Like a 5 sec negative. Then hold the stretch for 15 seconds and do it again. With DC you do this for 12 reps to absolute failure (It is hell getting through the pain).

ive heard you talk before about protein shakes vs amino acids, and that younprefer your clients to take aminos, why is that?
                  Hany:
amino acids get to your system much fatser than protein shakes do.most people tend to use shakes as a meal replacement instead of eating solid foo.as i have pointed out before, the human ody simply processes real food better than protein poders.time after time,i have noted that the more shakes a bodybuilder drinks as opposed to consuming more whole-food meals, the flatter and softer his muscles appear to be.every time i have an athlete stop drinkin shakes and eat whole food, its never long before he takes on a fuller and harder appearence.
the best thing about amino acids is that you can take them 30 minutes before a meal to help keep your body in an anabolic state, and then eat the meal itself.all the athlete who i have worked with who do this have been very impressed.fin

what do you think?do you consume free form aminos before meals?

                    he says aminos are better
basically he says that real food is processed better by the body and if you replace your shakes with real food you will be less flat and fuller and he does this with his clients and they are all pleased with the results
he also says you should take amino acids 30 min before a meal o get you body in a more anabolic state

what do you tink ,you can check it out if you have it as im sure you do with your new column

                      • Layne,

I've been reading about beef protein isolates:

                        http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/mu.../carnivor.html

I assume there are different amino molecular sizes but how does beef become a protein powder? Is this even possible?

                        Thanks!

well free form aminos are great because they spike plasma amino acids to supraphysiological levels. This is great. But I simply don't agree with the logic that with real foods you will be less flat. Flat or full is an issue of glycogen (which would relate to an issue of how gluconeogenic a particular protein is, and i'm pretty sure people don't want their protein to be a primary glucose source) and the amount of fluid in your vascular system and I fail to see how whole food vs. shakes would effect that. Now, may whole foods be more FILLING in terms of gut and stomach volume than shakes? Yes. However another option is that you blend your shake with ice to increase the volume of it and you will get a similar benefit.

as far as when I take amino acids, I take them between meals and I would suggest reading my reviews/articles on protein intake frequency and 'refractory response' to understand why as I have described so in detail
