i've never seen any evidence that ecdysterones do anything really

      • Big Layne, without the use of supplements such as novedex xt by gaspari and ergo pharm's 6oxo, since its banned in the INBF and im not sure if they are allowed in the NGA or OCB, what is the best way to keep estrogen levels to an absolute minimum during contest prep and up through the competition to achieve that hard, dry look? i.e. doug miller, skip lacour, alex azarian...

        • Layne, got a couple quick question for ya. hope it hasnt been answered before cuz i've been going through all the pages.

so when do you believe a trainee should start incorporating bands in training?
I just began using a 3-day split for westside.
Do you thing it would be wise for me to plug some bodybuilding exercises in the program? add a extra DE day?

          I am 18
          Weight: 192 lbs
          been training for 2 years(seriously)
          Bench: 280x2
          Box Squat: 450
          Deadlift: 470

that look has nothing to do with estrogen. it has to do with being lean as hell

i'd get a solid 8-12 weeks in before you start. make sure you've got the form down. Wait til you start to plateau then add in some accommodating resistance

              • just wanted to say I way very appreciative to read your column in the last MD about different types of diets and how people react to them. I find so often gurus get caught up in the type of diet that they respond to the best and forget that every body is different. Sure we all have the same basic physiology going on, but how we react to any array of things from foods to supplements can be completely different. Just really refreshing to read that from someone who preps people

You can't - lat insertion is genetic. Just develop the overall lat the best you can.

                    • Is it better to use whey if you are going to use protein powders sometimes for meals to have the rising and lowering of levels as explained in your slide show, etc. or would it matter if you used a blend such as Dymatizes elite 12 hour protein, etc. that claimed to keep levels elevated for such a long time?

Lanyne, whats your take on frequency training vs volume?
hav eyou heard of the bigger beyond belief program?
training muscle group approx 3 times per week but only 4 sets per day.Im currently doing a normal bodypart split but people say they have great gains on it. here's an example from the bodybuilding.com spokesmodel winner who loves this routine http://blog.bodybuilding.com/bookerbrother
Do you thinks its enough volume, there is also a 4 day split I may do instead.

                        • Layne, as you know traditional every 2-3 hours protein feedings helps to keep protein synthesis going and helps the body stay in anabolic state, but 8-10 sleeping is vice-versa effect on human body, very catabolic without any feedings. Do you suggest to keep eating in that period of time? For example; setting alarm clock, waking up in the middle of the night and consuming some solid protein or protein shake?

lol....you ask this question of the man who has done the research showing that eating every 4-6 hours is better than every 2-3 lol

                            • In your opinion how many weeks (I know it varies, but roughly) would it take for an endomorph at 175lb and 18%bf to get to about 9-10%? Would someone like this with not much muscle and too much fat have any appreciable risk of muscle loss if they just made sure to keep strength up?

For this same reason, you should not take whey on an empty stomach or by itself at any other time of the day.

You suggest to take whey protein before HIIT cardio rather than fasted stated empty stomach cardio, right? If whey nothing to prevent catabolism, why do you suggest whey protein prior to the HIIT cardio.

                                And,

So it's not beneficial to use whey protein isolate as a meal replacement? Why shouldn't us take whey on an empty stomach by itself? What other macronututrients needed with whey protein?
